I’m slightly confused on the whole diet thing. I will be feeding my 2 guinea pigs pellets and vegetables. How much vegetables a day do I feed one of them?

Hi
I feed mine roughly 1 cup of veg a day- lettuce mix (not iceburg) cucumber, capsicum, herb.
Spinach & Rocket once a week.
Treats- carrot, apple, melon, grape, blueberries & corn.

They also get 1 tablespoon of pellets if they eat them & fresh cut grass daily.
Hay lots of hay more than they can eat. Hay is the most important part of their diet.

The diet guides are very useful, but it can get confusing.

My 3 get 2 handfuls of pellets per day between 2 bowls, lots and lots of hay and about a pasta bowl full of assorted veggies spread throughout the day.
I give them a romaine lettuce leaf or a chicory leaf each at breakfast, something in the middle of the day when they start shouting at me - a small pack of dill for example and the rest of their allowance in the late afternoon after playtime.

The main thing is not to overdo the stuff that's too high in calcium or sugars but feed those as occasional treats.

Fortunately guinea pigs are basically fur covered appetites and will tuck into pretty much everything

Their diet needs to be 85% hay. Eating plenty of hay comes before eating anything else. If they aren’t eating enough hay then cutting down veg and pellets is the first thing to do.

One guinea pig can then have one cup of veg a day. A good variety of veg using the guide linked above.
Then one guinea pig can have one tablespoon of pellets a day.

So to feed both of them, give two tablespoons of pellets and two cups of veg a day.

Yea dont forgot hay is 80% of their diet though. Timothy hay
