Dirty Ears

Hi, looking for a bit of advice. Was just having a wee check of lloyds ears and the top of her inner ear had a small black spot/lump, I'm starting to think it may have been poop. It came away easily with a cotton bud but her ears are still quite dirty, (she wouldn't sit still for very long). Harry's ears are clean but have what looks like dry skin in them. What's the gentlest way to clean them and should they be checked by a vet?
