I gave Luna a bath today because I noticed she had these dark coloured spots in her fur (and she smelt like wee because Luna likes to lie underneath the thing Penny likes to wee on. She's such a numpty).
After her bath when she was mostly dry, I noticed that it didn't go away. I have done that test to see if it is flea dirt and I have concluded that it isn't. It is only in the one area in her fur (there is a bit where it is really short on her back end an that is where it is.

This picture isn't the clearest but it is the best I could get. Any ideas what it might be?

Dust from the hay? x

I thought that it could be from this, but wouldn't it have come out when she had a bath? and it is only in that one spot.
Also, why is part of her fur on her back end shorter than the rest?

could she have been nibbling it? my one had a flea bite and where she's been nibbling, the furs shorter. also lots of midges / insects about, could it have been a bite? the dark bit maybe bits of dried skin?

It could be hay/static mites they don't actually "run" like normal lice.

To be certain, use a little sellotape & tape it over the black specks then pull gently away & pop it under a microscope if you have one, if not use a magnifying glass. Any critters waving will be static mites :)

Hi

A couple of my girls had this problem and I identified it as static/hay mites. Quite harmless but a nuisance. I bought Lice 'n' Easy from Gorgeous Guineas which did the trick. My white girl, Moomin, was super white when she had been bathed, as if she had been on a hot wash ! It certainly did the trick, worth a try, Gorgeous Guinea products are really good.

This is the fortunate thing about having a white piggy even though they get dirty quicker lol :) Sadly my 3 now all have grey/brown/black bums lol!
