Do you need to use a litter as well as newspaper and hay?

Just wondered what you all thought. I have been so far using newspaper on the bottom of the cage, megazorb on top of the newspaper and then a fine layer of hay (obviously with lots of hay in their pigloos and special hay for them to eat stuffed in chubes etc). I find the megazorb quite hard to get hold of so I wondered if it would be okay just to use the newspaper and then hay? What do you think? Or is it better to use some sort of litter? ? ?

I only use newspaper and then hay and I find this good. But I haven't used megazorb so I don't o if it would be better

I have tried a lot of different methods but megazorb suits us best. I think you have to find what works for you and newspaper and hay sounds fine ;) my 2 boars ronald and donald need a regular change as they poo and wee right under their water bottle and in the doorway of the bedroom so I use newspaper and hay for them as that is what works best I have found, but megazorb is great if you can get it O0

Hi Nancy,

I use newspaper and hay and it is fine, not as absorbent as others maybe but it does us. I've just got Easi-bed so going to give this a try on the girls as they are messier than my boys. It's £3.99 in P@H for a small bed but in the long run I may save!

I use what you do - ie newspaper, megazorb and hay on top. Works brilliantly - hay isn't absorbent at all.
