My rescue baby doesn't seem to eat much from her food bowl, but she makes a terrible mess emptying the food out all over the floor of her cage.

I've seen her eat bits and she eats hay, so I'm not worried that she isn't eating anything. ANyone know what she might be doing/looking for?

Mine do this to mallethead

I got in from work to night and gave them their evening meal and most of it is on the cage floor now. They keep going doing it when i put it back in the bowl rolleyes

I think they're just lookin for the nice bits, it's what mine do anyway :)

Mine do it as well with their pellets. Perhaps she was on muesli before?

Yeah maybe she was on mixed food before so now it's just a habit! If I feed my rabbits mixed food they dig in the bowl! :)

Sometimes the guinea pigs sit on the edge of the bowl and tip it up (even though it's ceramic) and some food spills, but I've never seen them tip the food out on purpose.

Mine stand with their front feet in the bowl eating the pellets, but lately Penelope has taken to standing her feet on the edge of the bowl so it tips up and spills the food everywhere. I think it just amuses her.

My boar pees and poops in his often so I have to chuck it. I have started to keep it in a little bowl but he never chucks it out him self.

I have a few bowl tippers, and I've also got a couple who get a piece and drop it on the floor.

The funniest pair, eat up all their food in the bowl, but everyday fill it back up again with megazorb. I really don't know how they do that.rolleyes

That is weird.:)) You could leave the camcorder running while you were out to secretly film them doing it.

Dindypig has a very varied diet, the only thing she doesn't like is the big crushed/rolled wheat seed/flakes. I know this because it's the only thing she chucks out of her dish with disgust.
She also takes out bits of celery etc to get to other choicer items underneath but allways eats the cellery later.

I gave up on bowls after a day... It's more fun for them to look for the food and veggies around the cage anyway. I think mine were telling me that :)

when i put the food in peppa just tips both bowls on there side.I think its to see which bowl has the best bits in even though theye are both the same lol but the other pigs all leave there bowls alone and just eat normally.theye wouldent be the guineas i know and love if theye didnt.

Mine had a habit of going to the loo in their food bowl so I now just scatter the food and let them hunt!

Amber tips her bowl onto it's side to empty everything out. I think it might be a bit high sided for her but when we first got her she used to sit in it & pooprolleyes
I've just ordered two low food dishes from hay experts for them to see if that helps at all :)
