mice....

how do you keep them away? i keep food away so nothing can get to it.

the only problem i have is my bin bags after cleaning with hubby working we can only do tip runs every week i keep my bags **** about 3 or 4 at the bottom of the garden, all food spilled is cleaned up mice cant get into the shed or outhouse, but yet i still keep getting mice i dont know what more to do:(

hubby is doing the tip runs 2moz and going smash up an old door where ive seen 2 this morning.

but 3 mths ago they were at the bottom of the garden i caught 14 on traps over 2 days, then ive had nothing for since then, well last week i saw 4 again and 2day seen 2 at the top of the garden run behind this door, its the first time ive seen them up the top of the garden..

nextdoor breed rare finch birds but ive asked him if he has had a problem and he said no he hadnt seen any, sometimes he gets 1 or 2 in his shed and once had 1 in his house...

we had them in the house 3 yrs ago and caught 7 on traps in the bedrooms we fond where they were coming in and blocked it up..

but I'm at the end of my tether now and dont know what more to do, i had my outhouse done up to stop mice getting in, had another big shed built up tongue and groove so they cant get in, the can still get in my rabbit shed as its over lap, but since clearing a few bags in their the mice have not been seen in their now but have now moved closer to my house...

just wondering if any other rescues have problems at times with them and how they stop them coming?

I had them in my rabbit shed a few months ago, but that was because I'd bought a 15kg sack of food and they nibbled through the bag :(
When I took the food out of the shed they disappeared.

I heard if you get rid of the food source they'll look elsewhere for it, is there anything you can put the bin bags in until tip day?

nothing at all, :{

may have to buy a big bin to but them in I'm thinking:{

I make sure every single item is kept in steel dustbins with locked lids. Plastic dustbins are a waste of time and leaving any food or bedding lying around will always attract mice and rats.

It is worth taking the rubbish to the tip every other day too.

Remember if you can push a pencil through a hole a mouse can get in and one mouse can be 30 within a month so tidyness and vigilance are essential.

Hope you get sorted.

There is such a lot of rubbish with all the cages, and our council wont let me put it in the recycle bin because of the newspaper, so mine gathers up in the garage for the weekly tip trip, with just the odd sack going in the general wheely bin. If you can't find steel bins big enough, could you try one of those green plasticy storage things that normally keep deck chairs in and stuff. x

I dont know, I think they are pretty secure as they have to be waterproof, but I suppose they could be chewable while they are plastic? xx

hubby is just collecting me a big storage unit from focus its plastic but all locks in together and screwed its really big and costing a big £120:... never paid so muchfor plastic :)) but its very strong and has 3 thick layers or hard wearing plastic plus roof hinged just hope it fits in the car:...:...:...

the steel bins were £30 each and would only fill 1 clean out i do 3 a week sometimes 4

poor oh he couldnt fit it in the car so carried it home its sooooooooooooooooooooo heavey he gone walk back now to get his car feel really sorry for him worried me incase he has a heart attack:...:...:...:...:... it was mega heavey i couldnt lift it its about 6foot long and 4ft wide in 6 panels flat packed real think plastic:...

god hope he will be ok :... he suffers with high blood pressure too god i feel dead bad now he done this for me, that defo proves how much he loves me and he will do anything to help me

I do have a man who collects from me, usually the day or next day I email him although I haven't emailed him for a while usually mix mine in the gardening bin lol

I could pass on your details if you like?

He shares any he doesn't need with allotment owners so it doen't matter if there is loads :)

Hey I was going to say get a cat? I have 3 and so far no mice. But I do worry about them as I currently only tip once a week and I have bags and bags of waste.

Can you get a second wheelie bin for collection? I have been thinking how do I go about that. It would save the tip trips and sort the mice issue out?

Have you considered composting your waste yourself? Poop and straw and soggy newspaper and leftover vegetables will all compost. I have been doing this for four months now and the bin never gets full although I only have three pigs and one rabbit. I even chuck the slugs on it so they don't eat my marigolds. My friend gave me some wierd looking worms to start me off and I have never looked back. I put the weeds in there as well.

I have never seen any mice near my compost heap but that could be because they are all currently lording it up in the house at the moment!grrrr
You have my sympathy. Mice are sooooo annoying. (sorry mice lovers) One walked out into the living room the other day while we had guests.:red
