Dannii.

Hi everyone,
I was reading online about vet beds and was basically wondering if anybody else here uses them and if so are they better than bedding?

The carefresh bedding which i get at the moment is pretty expensive and when the piggies are having fun a lot of the carefresh bedding ends up on the floor out of the cage.

1. If i was to get a vet bed would i be able to just use that inreplacement of my bedding i am currently buying?

2. Would i have to wash the vet bed every couple of days?

3. Where can i get it from other than ebay as i no longer have an account on there?

Thankyou for your time :)

I recently (about two weeks ago) changed from woodshaving to vet bed and i think its fab!

I think it only needs to be washed about once a week, but i also have a litter tray which i line with kitchen roll and put it under the hay rack (best to get a square one) so they tend to wee in there alot, the wee on the vetbed will soak straight through and the top stays pretty dry and dosnt really smell.
A tip is to hoover the poos every day which is what i do and it stays looking clean!

ITS NOT TOO EXPENSIVE BUT I DID GET MINE FROM EBAY BUT, IV SEEN MY VETS SELL IT AND MOST LOCAL BIG PETSTORES ASWEL AS SOME WEBSITES ONLINE (JUST TYPE IT INTO GOOGLE)

the litter tray will need cleaning every day and the kitchen roll replacing and also throw the hay that has fallen onto the tray as they proberbly have wee'd on it (i do this every morning with the hoovering poos and takes under 10 mins)

1. yes, dead easy to change
2. yes, I have left mine 3 days and it's REALLY too long
3. I've had mine from local liveries and pet supplies warehouse. Alternatively, you can get pro-fleece (google it for website) and buy it online. Pro-fleece has really cool designs and colours.

vetbed same as pro-fleece, it's like wool stuck on an absorbant base. Not quite like the fleece blanket you can wrap yourself in on a colr winter's evening...

I hope I'm making sense.

i switched to vetbed 2 weeks ago, its been great, i put paper underneath the vetbed, spot clean off all the poos daily and change the paper mid week but dont have to wash it till the weekend (a lot of the smell comes from the paper not the actual vetbed) although depending on how many pigs you have you may need to wash more regularly. You can get it quite cheap on ebay, just get a really big piece and cut in half, then you can alternate between two.

just re-read and saw you dont have an ebay account, i got it from my local petstore but you can order it from different sites online, just search for it :)

I think vet bed is fab only problem is one of my guineas likes to wee on his poos that are in the corner and they turn into mush! He does not have a poo problem I might add as rest of the poos are fine they are just the ones in his wee corner!

Anyway I definately can't hoover them :)) I do try to brush poos out with dustpan and brush everyday (and then disinfect dust pan and brush as had soggy poos on it). It works better than shavings.

I just hope I can potty train the new piggie as george is potty trained (90% of the time anyway) so not much of a problem!
