Does anyone know anything about hamsters/a good hamster forum?

My daughter has got her first hamster this morning :smitten:. It's supposed to be a girl but I'm not so sure, judging by what I saw when it turned itself onto its back when I tried to pick it up! : It seemed quite cross and hissed loudly . . . I've had 3 hamsters in the past and none have done this, they've always been easy to handle. We've got a good book on hamsters but it's not the same as asking someone about stuff. Any ideas or can anyone tell me about a good Hamster Forum? If we could find a Hammy forum as brilliant as this one is, we'll be laughing

This http://www.hamster-heaven.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl is the best hammy forum I've found and it's my favourite I've found others too but they're not as active (though just as good) or people don't seem very friendly.

It sounds to me like the hamster is terrified. I'd leave her (him?) for a few days to settle in before attempting to handle

I agree with Jane HH is a great forum

A few of my hamsters did the same whe i got them but after a while they calmed down and became my tame friendly hammies :smitten:

I would leave him in a room he wll not be disturbed in so she can settle in and get use to his surroundings

HH is pretty good, has a young feel, which would be good for your daughter
