I bought 2 guinea pigs around August last year. Sadly in December on of the guineas passed sadly and suddenly. My other guinea was always quiet and since his cagemate has passed he's become very brave, coming to the cage door for feeds, squeaking away and loving cuddles. I feel guilty that he is on his own though. Would it be best to get him a cagemate or would he be best being left on his own? Daryl and Meryl are my first guineas so I am new to this :) Any advice is appreciated :) x

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Piggies are sociable creatures. They do best when in the company of their own kind, although they don't always make that easy for us to do. Please can you add your location to your profile as it will help, with advice. If you are in the UK there are rescues who undertake boar dating to get your little chap a suitable match. They organise suitable dating with other single boars until they find a compatible pairing. It's an amazing service and safer than simply bringing a new piggy home and risking a failed bonding. Hope this helps you.

Hi Loukell, I'm sorry to hear that you've lost one of your piggies. I have a boy in the rescue who just lost his cagemate yesterday. We are in Thornaby so not far from you & offer a free bonding service where you bring your boy & we introduce him to one or more solo boys to see if they're compatible. I'm out on rescue duties till this afternoon but free for most of this bank holiday weekend x

Oh wow @Stewybus this would be fantastic! I have just ordered a larger hutch so would be perfect. Please get in touch with more information because I very excited Lol :)

When I didn't hear back from you I bonded Dixie with a 4-week-old boy who arrived at the rescue on Saturday. At present we have 3 solo boys at a foster home nearby. It's possible that one of these my be a suitable friend for your boy. Our phone number is on our f/b page @ Tees Valley Guinea Pig Rescue or you can send pm from there x

Hi Loukell, I hope you can find your lonely pig a new friend.
I was in a similar position to you, earlier this year, and I took my solitary pig to a rescue who bonded him with two new friends. He is a very happy little pig now, and although he is elderly, he is enjoying running about with them.

Have to say as a walking dead fan I love your piggies names. If Daryl is still alive you'll have to name the new piggie Rick :))

Good luck with finding a new friend for your little one.
