It’s the same brand as we usually get but looks more strawy than usual, isn’t as soft, I’m feeling weird about itA6199FBE-3F79-403D-B960-B4B32525CCEB.webp

Thanks everyone, they are eating it happily it’s just the first I’ve seen it like this, overthinking stuff at it’s finest :))

I’ve just finished a bag that looked similar to this one, it’s the same hay we always get (pets at home meadow hay with timothy hay) and its usually really green but this particular bag the hay felt really dry and the strands were REALLY long and it just wasn’t very nice all round but the pigs still wheeked excitedly when I was filling up their hay trays and didn’t seem to mind the difference. The next bag i’ve opened today isn’t quite as bad as the previous one but still isn’t up to the usual standard. I’ve just put it down to all the wet weather we’ve been having possibly affecting the hay?

my hay matches this description exactly, very very dry and long strands but they’re in there enjoying it anyway! glad your next one isn’t as bad, I buy mine
3-5 bags at a time so here’s hoping the next one isn’t as bad!

We also get Pets-at-Home hay sometimes and there is variation... if I've been doubtful I look for the same type of hay but in a different sized bag because it can be quite different. I assume they just source it from different places and get different batches but I've never had a problem from PAH and pigs tuck into the lot. We once bought some emergency hay locally and it had a strong (although not unpleasant) 'mushroom' smell - really weird. Obviously didn't use that, and went for refund, and warned the shop in case other bags were the same!
