This weekend hubby and I have been invited to a two week cruise next year (all paid) apart from spending money. Being paid for my hubbys parents, who want to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversay, with all the rest of the family. :o :o

Wow I hear you all say... but this has caused such major problems and a heck of a dilema. !

Firstly... WORK! hubby and I work for same company, its a small one. Only 3 people (and a half for the part time lady) . So if we both have two weeks off it leave the Boss on his own with the part-timer to have to do all the work! Which is not a good thing. He struggles when we both have a few days off together so to leave him alone for that long is disaster. ! :(

Now to complicate things, BOSS is 70 on the exact same day as the inlaws wedding anniversary, and hes already talking of going away to Aussie for a few weeks to celebrate his birthday! so this of course clashes with the inlaws 2 weeks cruise offer.! So that would leave just the part time lady who would be available to work. ! which she couldnt do anyway! Arrrrgh!

I have said to hubby, please go, you have too, its your parents diamond wedding, they have never done anything like this ever, and he just has to go and be with his family. I know he wants to go, but he doesnt want to leave me behind, bless him. But with the work situation, someone has to be there! Its unavoidable. There is no way on this planet Boss would consider closing the business for 2 weeks while we had these holidays! I have worked for him too long and know what hes like. Its also the end of the financial year, stock taking and audit etc. So another reason why I cant go. These are my areas of responsibility ! I cant get away from that.

His parents are getting on in years now, and its an absolutely fantastic gesture of them to do this holiday. They are so excited, and I really want my husband to go, but how can I make him go and leave me behind.! ?? He just doesnt want to go and says its not fair as I wont get a holiday.

But heres another complication, my husband doenst know I have booked us a suprise holiday to New Yorks for 5 night for his 50th in August! So YES, I will get a holiday of sorts, its just he doenst know about it.!

So do you think I should tell him ? so he wont feel as bad and will go with his family on the cruise ?

I did want to leave it until a week before his birthday so it would be a huge suprise, but with everything else cooking away, I am just wondering if I should tell him about NY, and then it would make it easier for him to go with his folks as he would know we are off for a few days in Aug!

Gawd dont things get SO complicated. Everything was all settled until this offer came up!

we have been on a cruise and its heaven we did the med and we are off again in march to caribbean on another cruise , to be honest i would jump at the chance, we are also going to be going for our pearl annivesary in 2009, can you not have a word with your boss, can temps not be brought in to help, they only get one daimond annivesary and its a wonderful chance for you as well as hubby to be honest my hubby would not go with out me either, so can understand your dilema, could thenpart time ldy not do full time with a temp helping out I would chat with your boss and ask his advice he might have some ideas, believe me you dont want to miss it, where is it and on what ship? we love P and Os Oceana,

I know its a fantastic opportunity, and I would so love to go too. To visit so many places and be pampered for two weeks is a dream come true. Seeing Rome, Gilbralta and other places. I dont even know where all the stops are yet! the ship or anything! just know the dates! :o

Work is the biggest problem. We work for a specialist company and having anyone else working there is not an option. The timing of it just clashes with so many things.! :-\, it really is the worst possible two weeks out of 52 available. ! Sigh!

Gosh what poor timing for you :(

If it gets down to only one can go i'd do what you originally suggested, i'd let hubby go too. It'll be disappointing but hopefully an opportunity for you both will come your way sooner rather than later. Good luck.

we went to Gibralter and Rome in oct 95 and loved it like you said visiting all these wonderful places you have only read about in books is truly amazing if i was you I would chat to your boss and ask his advice he might surprise you, my daft kids thought Gibralter was great because they spoke English bless them dont understand this foreign country visiting as well as they should, it certainly wetted my appetite for cruising, cant wait for the caribbean in march, I'd move heaven and earth to find a way round it, ask your boss, after all what would happen if you were all ill, maybe its something that needs discussing

You definitely need to at least ask your boss. Can't you say to him that all your friends have said they've heard what a great person he is from what you've said about him in the past and that they're sure he'd let you go because he's such a nice person. Maybe he'll be so stunned and flattered he might be shocked into saying OK!

I did ask today and the answer was 'NO'! :'(. To have 2 key people off when there are only 3 key is a definite no-no and at that time is just so impossible.

I have begged hubby to go and be with his family while I stay behind, its such a shame to miss out on that special occasion but hes resolute, we go together or not at all.! So looks like we are going to be ones left behind.

I'm sure that your family will understand, given the working circumstances.

Not ideal tho :'(

Maybe a 2nd celebration at another time?

Hi Deb,

This is a nightmare situation! I think i'd tell him about New York, I think the look on his face will be the same whether you tell him now or in August...! Shame but then it means that he'l be able to decide whether the go the cruise alone or stay home with you. To be honest I wouldn't want to go alone if I were him but if he decides to then that's ok as long as he buys you some expensive pressies afterwards!
Shame about work but I understand the financial year :-\
Such a shame but you guys can look forawrd to New York from now yay!

Hope it gets sorted out, Love and hugs
