I know I'm a bit late but i hope that Dolly has recovered more since you last posted.

Mark said it was the same with Gizmo no stones but his bladder was thickened and inflamed and as you may know he is on metacam for life as he has arthritis but it has also helped with his bladder and he is much better now, so I'm sure that Dolly will make a full recovery too.

Did mark suggest giving Dolly Vitamin C drink? As he suggested that to me and said to give any human dissolvable vit C and to syringe 20mls a day.

Also the barley water i have given that to him too and you can get barely from tesco for 39p for a big ish bag and you boil it until the barley is soft, then simmer until the water turns a milky colour. It only lasts 24 hours so its best to make small amounts.

Hope she is better now. :)

Sam she's like a different pig, much better thank you. No arthritis or anything on her xray which I was pleased about. Poor Gizmo - is he getting through much metacam?

Thank you for the barley water advice! Don't think I need right now but I bought a bag incase it flares up again. Nice to know of someone else who has used it.

He has one drop of metacam in the morning and another one at night, I give it to him every 12 hours. He loves it which is good. The vet gave me a 10 ml bottle of the dog suspension unopened so it should last me a while.

Do you have a pig on metacam for life? As mark said to me that to see an improvement he would have to be on it for at least a month? He has improved and he did have a lot of arthritis, which mark said was from his past life when he was young and didnt have the correct diet. :( At least he is getting his daily veg and hay now. :)

For long term use, rimadyl is better, as it has less side effects.

Yes I do have a long term user, Lotta. She has to have it when her lungs flair up, touch wood though she's not had a flair up for about 6 months and then it's one drop twice a day for her too until it's gone. I have the same bottle as you and mine is about half gone. I have used it for others though when necessary.

Oh, maybe i should get back in touch with the vet, as all he mentioned was that the only side effect was that he may go off his food, but he hasn't done that!

Thanks for letting me know.

So glad that Dolly is much better Lisa. :(|)

Thanks hun. I think I was a bit premature as she's squaling again - not as much but she still is and her skin is beautiful so it can't be that. I am going to see if the vet will now let me have the septrin without consultation, he said if she was still doing it now then she could have it.

Done the barley water and been doing the cranberry again.

I forgot to mention, before I took Poppy to Vedra, my rodentologist advised me to try human cystitis relief powder diluted in water. That really helped. I can't remember the dosage though, maybe Laura will know - it was Cystapurin I used, you can get it from a chemist :)

Hope that Dolly is feeling better now.

I'm sure that the vet will give you the septrin as ive got some in my cupboard for stand by that he gave me.

:)

I do have some. He's said a ml a time twice a day, it's banana flavoured. Is that what you have?

I knew someone knew about the barley water! :)

Poor Dolly :( Hope she gets better soon Lisa!

Poor Dolly I hope she is back to normal self soon x

She's a complete nightmare!! I have given her the septrin but boy was it hard! Can't get the barley down her, done it once but that's all so far. Ditto the cranberry juice. Arghhhhhh she's a nutter :{

That's no way to describe an elegant ladypig, Lisa!

Tho' I do know what you mean, often the best piggies are the worst patients.

Dose for cystitis powders, same as for normal fluids - dilute the powder same as for humans and syringe as much as you can, every little helps, but aroundabout 40ml suits. Not easy if they don't like the taste though, I tend not to force fluids too heavily. It's one reason I kinda can't wait to learn how to give injections, it would be a huge weight off my mind being able to inject subcue fluids.

Yes that is what i have and the same dose too.

Did he say how often to give it? As at the moment he just wants me to give it when he is in alot of pain, but luckily the metacam is working for Gizmo and he onlys squeaks once or twice a day when he does very small wees.

Dont taste it! Its :)>>> and now i know why Gizmo hates it! :(|)
