Fweeper
Junior Guinea Pig
Bare facts:
2 boars, litter mates, been together since birth
they're estimated to be around a year old
whilst mild bickering before, they got on well
Praline was top pig, became ill, had a night out of the cage, now Sundae is top pig and vicious with it.
In depth story:
I'm having some real issues between my two at the moment caused, I believe, by the recent illness one of them had. Essentially, it was very touch and go with Praline, he was peeing blood, turned out to have sludge in his bladder and had the op to flush it. All went well, he's fine now, but unfortunately he had to be seperated from his brother for a night after his surgery. This has caused merry hell between them.
Where once they had been relatively peaceful, some bickering but nothing serious, now they appear to be fighting it out once again and unfortunately Praline has lost his spot as top pig. I say unfortunately because he was a benevolent ruler and all was calm. Sundae, however, is a troppy, grumpy, huffy little pig who likes to throw his weight around. Leadership is not a good look on him.
Yesterday, they got into a teeth chattering, foot stomping huff with eachother, Sundae made a lunge as he often does, but tripped over the food bowl and actually ended up basically falling into Praline's teeth. Both of them were HUGELY traumatised by this, Sundae cried for a good 10 minutes while I checked him over to make sure he had no major injuries, Praline was utterly confused and upset. The physical result was a cut nose and lip, but nothing major. I cleaned Sundae up and back in he went.
They are now exceedingly wary of eachother and there's a lot of posturing and grumpiness.
It's always been my policy to let them get on with it unless serious injuries occur, so I've stopped putting them into their night cage now and instead leave them in their vast run overnight, so they have space to escape eachother and two of everything to ensure no battles over water or a bed.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can help them through this? They don't hate eachother, they've never fought over food or anything, most of the time (up until Praline's illness) they'd done very well together, but this really set them back and I'd love to see them back to happiness again.
