Hi

I have been researching using Cystease for my Guinea Pig Lola and I have spoken with my vet who says it is worth a try, but as not licensed for Guinea Pigs she was unsure what dosage to give.

I would just like to know what dosage I should start with as there are quite a few conflicting posts about the amount and how often a day?

Is it best to start her on 1/2 a capsule or start with 1 capsule per day? (the squeaking, hunching and weeing blood is pretty bad most days). If the suggestion is 1 capsule per day is it OK to give it to her in one go - or 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening? Also how much water should it be mixed with?

So would it be:

1/2 capsule with 1-2ml of water
1 capsule with 2-4ml of water

Any advice would be much appreciated, I am really hoping this will work as nothing else has so far!

Thanks

Hi there, I'm currently giving my boar Gremlin cystease and I've been giving him 1 pill in 2.0ml of water per day. I mix 4 pills in a small medicine bottle with 8.0ml of water, shake it up and give him 1.0ml in the morning and 1.0ml in the evening and keep it in the fridge. Hope this helps.

I use to give my IC girls one capsule each per day. I use to mix one capsule with 1ml water. As above, I used to mix four capsules with 4ml of water and leave in the fridge.

It's down to personal preference to how much water you mix it with but my girls would quite happily take a 1ml syringe full of water in one sitting.

Thankfully both my IC girls recovered from IC within 3 years.

I have given the same and usually mixed 2-4 capsules at the same time in a small medicine bottle from the vets or a pharmacy by vigorous shaking and storing in the fridge between uses (always shake again before medication). I have found that the mix of 1 ml of water per capsule works better.

In many cases , you won't see any noticeable improvement as such, but IC symptoms will recur shortly after you stop it, so it is really helping the bladder.

Are these the feline capsules or are there others? Our cat has them sometimes as he's prone to crystals, had no idea pigs could also have them!

Peanut has Catease capsules from the vet, she said to give one a day mixed in 1ml water.
