Yesterday whilst picking up Doughnut I felt a small lump on the middle of his tummy. Concerned, I spent several minutes parting fur out of the way where I could feel the lump (he's very fluffy so it took a while), which revealed a small black lump. Well I say lump, but it's slightly flat on the top. I'd say it's approximately a third of the size of a pea, a little flatter than a pea though.

Horizontally, it is central. Vertically, it's a little lower than the centre. I think it might be his belly button but I'm not sure. There is no hair loss on/around the black lump, hence why it was difficult to find. It doesn't look like a nipple.

Shall I take him to my vet?

He is only 14 months old. I am going to go and check if any of my other piggies have these...

Some piggies have more prominent belly buttons while others are virtually unnoticeable. Keep an eye on it and have it looked at next time you see a vet with him if there are no changes.

I have just inspected his brother's tummy (much to his disapproval), he doesn't seem to have a lump there.

Doughnut's lump/belly button is not very noticeable, it took some persistence to find it. It hasn't changed since yesterday.

Would taking a picture and posting it help at all?

You can post a picture, but we cannot guarantee that we can say what it is. Please respect that.

Of course I know there is never a guarantee for an accurate diagnosis for a photo on the internet, I was only suggesting I post a photo because the lump might be in the exact same spot as a belly button. As I have never seen a piggy belly button before, I wouldn't really know where a belly button would be on a piggy.

i took eddie to the vets when i found a 'lump' around the same area. turned out it was his belly button so that was a relief. if you're unsure, get it checked out for peace of mind. :)

Haha I really overreacted yesterday when I discovered the lump. I was freaking out, scared he might have a tumour or something...

Yeah, especially as I love my Doughnut so much. I know you shouldn't have a favourite, but he is the sweetest little thing. He's so cuddly and cute, always hides in my arm and starts quietly squeaking.

I know, he is so sweet! He also loves chin rubs. He has a very soft, fluffy chin.

:luv: my benjie is the only one who has ever loved chin rubs! i was cuddling him today and tickling his chin and he loved it. the others always used to look at me like i was a nutcase if i tried with them :))

Aww Benjie sounds lovely.

Sorry for late reply, went to give Doughnut a cuddle. He lives outdoors, doesn't stop me from going out to give him latenight cuddles. He did a wee on me but the cuddle was still worth it. :luv:
