One of my beloved boys always has powdery wee but it is normally smooth when rubbed between my fingers. However, tonight it feels like very very fine sand.

He has an egg cup of burgess excel nuggets daily, I am feeding green pepper, cellery, cucumber and sometimes green beans daily, unlimited hay and I filter his water, but he still has rough feeling wee? Any ideas?

Oh and also, I have my pigs on puppy pads on my bed before I go to sleep for cuddle time every night and he wees about 2 times while on my bed. He has not been squeaking in pain while urinating and not heard him squeeking in pain from his cage either

I would not panic yet if I were you. With grit, you have got a few often rather sharp bits in the pee.

If sandy pees continue, then you may want him checked by a vet, especially if you notice signs of discomfort or infection, but it is likely just a one-off.

Update:
We have sandy wee again :( No sharp pieces that I can feel though and still no discomfort that I have witnessed

@Wiebke do you think he is likely to have bladder sludge? And if so how is this diagnosed and treated? I'm worried sick about him

I don't think that he is likely to have bladder sludge. And they are not like evenly textured sand, they are hard bits.

It it helps your own anxiety, crystals show up in a urine test and sludge in an x-ray. With a reasonable low calcium diet; there should normally be no problem.

@Sian25 try not to worry. Keep checking the wee, as long as there are no sharp pieces as Wiebke has said it should be ok. It is really easy to worry over piggies for nothing so I can sympathise, we all can :)

Thank you everyone. I will keep a good eye on him but I agree it's so worrying.. And I suffer with anxiety and OCD so that doesn't help haha
