I recently brought my guinea pig, Dexter to vet, because his nose was dried up. Found out that it was only dried up boogers. The vet had told me, if more Comes, to take a warm wash cloth to his nose, and wipe it up. Today, he had more, and both me and my boyfriend tried wiping it off. It doesn't come off very easily, and Dexter gets very scared, starts biting the towel, and letting out loud cries. Any suggestions on how to get it off, without having so much trouble?

Hi and welcome!

Are the boogers from clear fluid, in which case you are dealing with an irrition in the nose (hay dust, pollen, dry air) , or from thick greenish/yellowish stuff, which points towards a respiratory infection that needs to be treated with an antibiotic and that can kill. I assume that your vet has excluded the second possibility explicitly? Please him promptly again if there is any crustiness around his eyes/nose and his breathing is crackly or raspy.

If your little boy doesn't like having the boogers peeled off (which is not pleasant), you will have to wait until they come off on their on own.
