Hi I am new on here. My guinea pig Koko 10 Months old has been drinking lots more than usual. Not eating any veggies last week usually eats loads. Only nibbling fresh grass and eating pellets. Any help would be great. Thanks ;)

Please have him/her seen by a vet to get to the bottom of not eating veg. Koko will need to drink more as he/she has to make up for the fluid that are contained in the veg.

Please also weigh daily to make sure that there is no weight loss (in which case you should consider hand feeding). Any healthy piggy should be weighed weekly; it is an important tool in monitoring their health.

Thank you so much Wiebke. Will weigh her in the morning and bring her to the vet. She usually eats so much veggies.

Brought KoKo to vet and she could hear a wheeze so she is on an antibiotic.

Sounds like a URI - upper respiratory tract infection. One of the signs is loss of appetite.

Please make sure that you get some probiotics, especially if KoKo is on baytril, which is known for being very harsh on the guts. Bio-lapsis or avipro plus are good quality products that you can order online, but a probiotic from pets@home will do the trick in a pinch!

I will have a look for a probiotic in the morning. Hope she is back to herself very soon. She took antibiotic no problem. Hate seen her sick. Thanks so much for all your help.
