Since Kanga had her ovaries removed I have noticed her drinking at the water bottle. Neither of my piggies ever seemed to drink much, they do get a lot of fresh food & I always assumed that was where they were getting their liquid intake. Their diet hasn't changed*, but Kanga is now at the bottle a few times every day. One of my previous piggies drank a bottle a day when he was very old, and the vet said that was likely to be kidney trouble. Kanga is not drinking a huge amount every day, I would estimate the bottle (it's a 300ml one) goes down about a centimetre per day so she isn't drinking an excessive amount.
I have been wondering about hormonal changes making her more thirsty - do you think that could be it? It's 2 months since her op and she has been drinking more over the past month or so. She is eating well and jumping about a lot, her fur is still growing back from her op, but otherwise she is absolutely as normal. I'm not overly concerned, but I'd like to know WHY!

* I have been giving a bit extra food to try to get a bit more weight on her, she lost a lot pre & post op but it isn't any different foods, just more of it.

In the grand scheme of things, a can of water isn’t that much. Some will drink more than others. For example my boars drink more than the girls. I’d keep an eye on it for now. If it increases to a significant amount then you take her to get checked out.

I think if her ovaries have been removed then there are no hormones...I’m not entirely sure though. More water drinking isn’t likely down to hormonal issues.
