Two of my piggies have flaky scabbed skin on their noses that is yellow in colour, and all of my piggies have scurfy skin, I've attached pictures of Aspen's nose and skin on her rump and Lottie's nose, she has the scabbing going up and a stripe of hair loss and yellow crust around her nose, I hope you can see what I'm talking about, on the nose picture the scabby patch is just off the centre of the nose to the left, it appears to be spreading up the nose and is causing baldness. They had running lice 6 months ago that was treated with 3 weeks of ivermectin and lice N easy shampoo from gorgeous guineas, I have not seen any lice since, they then had mites, 4 weeks of ivermectin cleared up the scabs but they are still itchy and scurfy, they were treated again for 6 weeks and this is what they look like at the moment, doesn't look like it has totally cleared after so much treatment, I've had skin scrapings done on 3 pigs and no yeast was found at the time (3 months ago) any thoughts and advice welcome! :)

Your piggy has got either mild fungal or a harmless growth on her nose; neither of which is uncommon.

Please have your piggy checked for the flaky skin on the back as to whether that is fungal, mange mites or caused by more harmless but often persistent hay/fur mites.

We cannot diagnose online, all we can do is tell you when you should need to see a vet and which avenues you and your vet may want to pursue.

I asked about it at the vet yesterday but she was too bothered checking Lottie's bladder and breathing as those were the main concerns, we just kind of forgot with the other issues going on which I took her for, kicking myself a bit now as I won't have money until next week. Can I try some athletes foot cream or clotrimazole on it and see if it responds? I have 2 pigs with the exact same crusty nose so I worry it is fungal

Yes, you can use daktarin for the fungal on the nose if you just thinly dab it on. It is not ringworm, which needs stronger treatment. I would not treat the back as it makes any diagnosis even more difficult. At the moment, it doesn't look desperate.

Yes I wasn't going to do anything on their backs it was just the nose, I only noticed it yesterday, the crusties are very small and I had to look really close to see it, I first noticed just a stripe of hair loss and when I looked closer I saw yellow crust, immediately thought of fungal but I agree it doesn't look like ringworm. Both Lottie and Aspen often get a stuffy nose, from allergies I believe, could this have anything to do with why only these two piggies have this scabbing on the nose? I don't have daktarin in at the moment, I have clotrimazole which is an antifungal cream, can I use this instead? Not sure if it's the same as miconazole

Anything ending in -zole means that it is antifungal. Yes, you can use that. As said, it is just very mild fungal and nothing to worry about.

I've been applying the cream x2 daily for 2 days now, the scab itself has improved slightly but it's beginning to spread down the crease in the nose/lips now, is this normal or does that mean the cream is making it worse and I should stop using it?

I would stop using it and see a vet tomorrow!
