Hi guys,

I have just been to pick Oscar up for a iccle cuddle and i notice his ear is a bit dry and white? It also feels a little bumpy. The other ear seems fine. An he let me touch them both no problem.

Has anyone any ideas? Obviously i will keep checking it, but for now i have applied a little Sudocrem.

Thanks in anticipation x

Liquorice had a abscess in her lymphoid under her chin when I bought her from P@H and suspected ringworm on her ear, described just as you've just said, whitish and lumpy.. P@H were really good, as they paid for her to have the abscess lanced and antibiotics.. she recuperated with me,I felt she'd gone through enough, so brought her straight home when the vet let P@H bring her back to store..

ok guys this is great, do you think i should take him to the vets or just buy something to treat it? I dont want the little man to suffer, cheers x

You can try to treat at home, anti-fungal creams available from the chemist include Daktarin Cream or Daktarin Gold ointment, or Canesten 1% - but if you are at all unsure I would recommend seeing the vet.

ok, its a very small amount on the very edge of his ear, i just dont want him to suffer. I will have a better look tonight, he just moves so fast! Is it ok to treat him even though he is so young, hes approx 6 weeks.

thanks everyone for your advice

I have treated a younger pig using a miconazole-based product similar to Daktarin Cream, with no problems; I used it on her feet, more likely to get licked than your Oscar's ears!

Just use as small an amount as possible, just enough to sink into the affected skin on his ear. Applied 2x daily; how long for, at least 3 days after the dry skin has cleared up.

I used Daktarin Gold ointment on one of my girls. She had fungal ear and 2 scabs on her body. One on her back and one on her cheek. I used the Daktarin Gold twice a day and the fungal had completely cleared up within 2 weeks :) She was only just over a month old at the time.
