Here in the U.S. there’s an e. Coli outbreak being recalled in all romaine lettuce marketed from Salinas, California.

All week both my guinea pigs and I have been eating a package of romaine. After hearing about this I checked the package and, of course, it was from Salinas, CA.

This bag of romaine was bought about four days ago, should I throw it away? (If so the piggies would have to go a few days without romaine, but I feel like it’s not worth the chance)

Yea stop the romaine until things have settled, not worth it, especially with romaine, in can think of worse veg for a pig to no be able to have 👍😉

Please throw the bag away and stop feeding. E.coli can be fatal for guinea pigs, not just for humans!
Please stop feeding any pre-washed and pre-packed lettuce for the time being. Lettuce is not the most nutritious food to give piggies, so they can do well without it.
Have a look at our own diet recommendations for healthy alternatives and keep in mind that veg is more in the way of a daily treat rather than the mainstay of the diet; that is hay, hay and even more hay - the more hay your piggies eat, the greater the chances that they will live to the upper end of the average life span if they stay healthy.
