Hello, i made a post a little while back about my piggy having an ear infection. It's all cleared up now and he's back to his normal self. I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow to check up on him. I was wondering if anyone has had a pig with an ear infection before and knew how long they had to be on antibiotics. My vet gave me a 2 week does which he's been on and on Friday that'll be two weeks. But she said she would look at him and see if he should be on it for 2 more weeks ( making it 4 weeks!) A month on antibiotics seems absolutely ridiculous. For an animal and even a human. So is this doctor nuts or what? He seems fine to me because he's eating and drinking, gaining his weight back and not tilting his head anymore. But if she offers me another two week dose tomorrow should i refuse and try to find another vet? how was it with your piggies?

My Phoebe had a 2 week course too but if the vet had told me she needed longer I would have agreed with it. Sometimes a second type of antibiotic is needed too. Am pleased he seems to be back to normal though.

sometimes a long course is needed to reach any infection that could be deep inside. this is usually needed for alot of things, ear infections being one of them. sometimes it can take that long for all the swelling to reduce. if your vets are exotics/guinea savvy then i would go with what they advise. :)

ok, thank you guys! i just never had a sick pet before and i wasn't sure how long courses went on. It sounded very long to me. Hopefully everything is healed up with him! :)
