Hi all

I saw some flakey skin on Sweetie's ear, added a bit of F10 creme and it disappeared

Do piggies suffer with flakey skin? I know that Snowy is almost recovered from ringworm but we have been so careful!

How could she have gotten it? There is no blood or scabs and she hasn't been ear Snowy. He has show no signs of fungal infection for over a week

I will book a vet appointment for her tomorrow but I'm concerned

I would have thought that because it went away with cream, it wasn't anything nasty, but your right to get it checked out from the vet. Let us know her she gets on.

Ringworm is spread by spores - thousands of them - by air but also by your hands or clothes. It is very contagious. The time between infection and outbreak, the incubation period, is 10-14 days. Please treat her fully for ringworm and give ideally all your piggies whether infected or not a fungal dip. You also need to be very careful with your hygiene, including your clothing.

I have old clothing that I only wear whilst cuddling Snowy. I also use F10 disinfectant and F10 hand gel. I now also have an F10 creme that the vet suggested I get. Snowy hasn't had flaky skin anywhere for over 2 weeks, and the original circular hair loss bit in his flank has new fur.

I was not given any fungal dip from the vet, instead Snowy has been on oral meds

Would getting an anti fungal shampoo from Gorgeous Piggies help? Il take Sweetie to the vets tomorrow for a quick check up.

Sweetie is a Rex piggy, and I'm sure that I read somewhere that Rex piggies are prone to dry and flaky skin.

Yeah, my Rex boy had drier skin. We used to have Gorgeous Guineas creams for him.

Rexes and teddies can have drier skin, but in your case, I would recommend to give all other piggies in the house a fungal bath, just to be on the safe side. Personally, I have found enilconazole/imaverol the best re. mildness (especially around the eyes, ears and mouth) and effectiveness. It is available online from hyperdrug.

I have managed to carry the infection across to another group via my pullover, so it can actually quite easily happen. All it takes is just one single spore...

Got home from spending four hours at the garage for my Smart to have a service and MOT and found Sweeties' ear worse than last night. It looked like a bloom this time, although she wasn't bothered in the slightest. Added F10 barrier creme and Rang vets and got an appointment.

The vet was not a specialist but checked the ears with ultraviolet light and got nothing. Whatever she has is very mild. She is clear everywhere else to. So is Poppy and Smudge. I'm to add double dose probiotic vit C in to drinking water for several weeks and treat for mites just in case, and another treatment in two weeks time.

I bought four boxes of Beaphore anti parasite spot on because it contains Ivermectin (as the vet said) total cost £37 for the vet and £20 for the Beaphore. Even though he checked three animals I was billed for just one.

I didn't realise that vets charged per animal. Probably because I have only ever taken single hamsters before (apart from Snowy).
