Hi guys,

I wonder if you can give me some advice on this. My piggy Moonpig has developed some problems with her ears, I noticed it about a week ago. They seem to be quite dry and have white flakes on them. I have seen her scratch them as well and she has some bloody scabs on the inside of her outer ears as well (see pics). I have tried some iodine cream and also the coconeem melt and manuka shampoo from Georgious Guineas which cleared flakes nicely but now I have stopped the treament it has come back already within a day.

Any ideas on how to treat this?

looks like fungal to me...i use clotrimazole 1% twice a day on the ears for 2 to 4 wks you can also use canesten cream 1% not 2% as its the clotrimazole that helps....you can get both from a pharmacy

Hi,

thanks for your replies and the links. Yes, I was thinking it was fungal, too, I wasn't sure how to treat it best because it's just on the ears.

Leo had this, gorgoeousguineas have a cream for about £2 that gets rid. =] I used that. Google it then contact them if you can't find it. They'll advice you to which it is.

Hi everyone. Just came across this as my tia has the exact same thing on one of her ears. She has had it since i got her and we have tried : a course of ringworm treatment, a mites treatment, and ive tried applying sudocrem incase it was eczema as it was bleeding and very irritated at the edges. The bleeding spots are healing but she still has the problem. Any ideas what i could try?

Hopefully this pic will show up. Its a bit white around the scabs because of the sudocrem i have been using

Definitely a vets visit. Where do you live?

Looks fungal to me, but you need a diagnosis by a vet to be sure.

hopefully someone may be able to suggest a cavy savvy vet local to you. May be worth starting a new thread in health and illness specifically for Tia

Ok thanks i will get her in at the vets. I am in stockport area, cheshire. I have a pretty decent vet i have taken my other piggies to who i trust so i will see her. I will let you know the outcome and if we have no success then i will start a new thread and get some more advice
