Hello. I have a male guinea pig named Ceasar. He's close to 6 months old. He's eating and he's drinking. He sneezes a few times a day, and I don't see any dripping nose, lose in appetite, or lethargy. Recently I saw him laying on his side, and I saw by his hip was moving quickly. I felt his side and I guess it was his heartbeat. I searched up that guinea pigs do have a rapid heartbeat, but I don't know, I'm still worried. I cut his nails not too long ago, and I think he's become scared of me? When I pick him up, he tries everything to get away from me. He was always like that. That's his maybe fourth nail clipping. Someone help please?

Was he asleep? their breathing can look worse when asleep. If you are worried though I would get him checked by a vet just in case an upper respiratory infection is brewing and to get his heart checked.

Hi! What you are seeing sounds perfectly normal, but if you are worried, have your boy checked through by a vet.

As it's been said above,if you are worried then a vet visit will calm you and give you a definite answer. My boar sneezes a few times a day and has quite a load breath so I took him to the vet fearing it was a URI. Luckily for me the vet gave him a quick mot if you like and said he was fine. I was given antibiotics as a precaution but stopped them shortly afterwards because he got diarreah and went off his food-the medicine made him sick not the sneezes! The vet has said that it is most likely an allergy to something-we belive hay.

I'm not sure if he was asleep. I would like to take him to the vet, but my family don't have the money for it. Thank you for replying!

Thank you so much! My father did buy a different brand of hay and bedding. I don't think Ceasar is fitting quite well to it. Thank you for replying!

Thank you! First guinea pig and even though I've had him for quite a while, I still get freaked out, lol. I don't ever think my worrying will ever go away. Thank you for replying :)
