I use puppy pads and wood shavings in my cage. The piggies (yes Esme, I’m looking at you) has managed to dig the puppy pad out and have been eating it. They’ve done this before but this time, they’ve eaten quite a bit 😞 Will they be ok? I can’t take anymore piggy problems

My Harry did this so many times I had to stop using them, but he never showed any signs of being any worse for wear for his... questionable dietary choices. I just kept a close eye on them for a while after each incident, just in case.

Edit: Should have mentioned that, because it was under vetbed at the time, he'd often manage to get at quite a bit. Sorry, I was in a rush to post and forgot a crucial bit! Fingers crossed yours are all okay as well 🙂

Thank you. I used to use newspapers that my old neighbours used to collect for me but then we moved house and newspaper supply dried up so I had to swap to puppy pads. The piggies usually leave them alone. I’m glad Harry was ok. I’ll keep a close eye on them x

My old girls Mavis and Peggy did this too. I use fleece so we have three layers, puppy pads, newspaper and then fleece (then hay on top in some places). They do sometimes chew the newspaper but never get to the puppy pads. So maybe you could try a layer of newspaper between the wood shavings and the puppy pads.
