Edible Willow Species And Where To Buy

I am looking for foods very high in vit C for a piggy with a deficiency.

This link shows that Peppers are one of the best sources (that my cavy actually eat) ...

Foods highest in Vitamin C

They also love **some** dried willow branch items sold in pet shops etc, but only some, and only the thinnest of branches. So I want to find sources of such willow.

Does anyone know what species are used in the various products? And where to buy them?

@kirstypiggies Hiya! Has your vet diagnosed a vitamin C deficiency? I ask because giving additional Vit C to a healthy pig can be detrimental and should only be done short term. Sometimes it can also be a symptom of a different problem

Peppers are great sources of Vitamin C so you can try all three colours of those. Parsley is pretty good too, but it should be fed in moderation.

If you do want to give Vitamin C tablets, there are ones made by Oxbow specifically for pigs. You can also give plain human Vitamin C tablets, 50mg/kg once a day, or 25mg/kg twice a day.

A normal diet of hay, veg and pellets usually gives a pig enough Vitamin C so they don't really need supplements.

I don't tend to give my pigs willow so I can't really help with that, sorry.

Cebion drops; an excellent and cheap supplement of vit C easily to dose: 1 drop contains 6mg of vit C; the amount for a piggie is 30-40mg/kg daily.
Peppers and vegs contain vit C but only after the harvest.. some hours later they have lost part of it... some days later the vit C has gone.
Fresh grass contains vit C, too; but I give my piggies a little supplement as well (2 drops). As you probably know there is no risk of accumulation because the eventual excess goes away with the urine...
Oxbow tablets and fortified pellets... same problem: in the air and the light vit C decreases...
Cebion drops has an amazing taste and my piggies would drink a whole bottle if they would be allowed to!
If your piggie was diagnosed with a deficiency, maybe the dosage should be higher now... (or maybe not, because the body absorbs more when it is in deficiency... )
