Hi folks,

Does anyone have this cage

Eglu Go Guinea Pig Hutch | Plastic House for Guinea Pigs

Is it any good? It is a couple of years now since i have put the pigs out at all during summer as i have had elderly or chesty pigs.

I still have an old wooden hutch in my shed but it isnt fox proof (hence why it's in the shed)

And previous summers, the pigs lived out there late may til september, going onto the grass during dry days.

Unfortunately, even in summer many days were wet so some days they were in the shed the whole day.

I dont like that this plastic hutch has no windows so on wet days they'd be enclosed but the pigs probably wouldnt mind that would they?

And I'm not sure about the wire bits at the bottom of the run. Will they be ok for piggy feet?

I would never dream of leaving them out in this during the winter - I'm alarmed it even suggests that as an option. Summer only.

What do you think of this for 2 sows?

I think they're very overpriced and absolutely tiny. Like you say on wet days they're stuck in there with no windows. It'd be dark. You could probably get a Decent hutch and run cheaper.

Yes, i have got a decent sized run already, just bought last summer to replace the old tatty one.

And the wooden hutch in the shed is in decent nick too. So i dont actually really NEED anything else - i just liked the look of this and with it being secure enough to stay out in the garden at night, that is appealing.

Price isnt an issue - our outgoings have been sooooo low during the past year with these lockdowns, we have spare to spend!

I wouldn’t use this. It’s plastic so would get sweltering hot, it’s too small for them to be locked into and has no ventilation. I wouldn’t trust them to be safe in it all night no matter what it was made of though
I would go for a proper wooden hutch and wood and mesh run every time

We got donated one to the rescue a couple of years ago its literally tiny the indoor accommodation. We wouldn't rehome to one as a permanent hutch. Not unless it was just being used as a shelter and run and the door stayed permanently open. I'd worry about ventilation and light in the living area too.

Yes, i couldnt leave the door permanantly open as our grass is often wet with dew til later even on sunny days.

Our wooden hutch is a 4ft one but i often found both my huge rex tucked up into the tiny bedroom part together.

Thanks for these thought though

We have plenty of potential adopters who approach us thinking that the Eglu is a great set up. I think they look aesthetically pleasing and they cost a small fortune. But we have never approved one - the living accommodation is just far too small.

Thanks 🙂 unfortunately out of stock just now - I'm not prepared to pay all that money to pre order as they suggest in case I'm waiting months but i will keep checking back to see if it comes back in.

Chartwell hutches are nice as well. A lot of them are on pre-order at the moment but as they make their own products on site themselves, their website says the wait is only a matter of days.

hi there, just to let you know I’ve had two hutches from this company and the roof has failed on both of them after a short period of time. This has resulted in black mould forming on the inside and a damp problem. I wouldn’t buy from them again!

I am waiting for our new hutch, it is also on pre- order, I think this is a general thing as even my local pet store, who I would rather purchase from, is struggling to get hutches. I have ordered one from home and roost, a 4ft Chartwell with covers. The website info says 5 working days then they dispatch on a next day delivery. I ordered mine on the 1st April so don't anticipate recieving mine till week beginning 12th at the earliest because of the holiday.

Oh no that is a shame. I might have to think again :hmm:
