Tonight we noticed that Ellie had slightly runny poos, I washed her bottom to clean her up and we gave her arrowroot which helps firm up poos, she was fine in herself.

Now a few hours later we have noticed that her poos are still runny but slightly firmer than before, however, we have also noticed that there is blood coming from her vagina - not running out but quite thick. Obviously we will get her to the vets as soon as possible (will be calling first thing). This is all very reminiscent of her late friend Terk - the blood and abnormal poos. Am assuming the possibilities here are either Pyometra, Ovarian cysts or an ovarian tumour (like Terk). We can't feel any cysts. If it is Pyometra then she will need to be spayed as soon as possible and as she is a heart pig there is a big risk there but one we will need to take.

She is still ok in herself and eating fine, she will not be having any veg until the poos have firmed up. We are giving Dioralyte and probiotics too.

Will update once she has been seen by the vet.

Awwww Good luck at the vets tomorrow... will be thinking of you & your Ellie too.:luv:
Whilst me & mine are at the vets also.... Same name... maybe similar problem :(

Sorry i can offer no advice.
But hope it all goes ok & speedy recovery.
xx

Thank you. Since my last post her poos have improved even more and we have noticed that the blood isn't pooring out like we first thought so that is something. Will assess in the morning and if need be see if I can go into work late but it is hard as the boss is not into animals at all and although he lets me do stuff like that there will be a time when he says no, also is his first day back tomorrow after a week off.

Oh no so sorry to read this Helen. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. Fingers crossed x x

Thank you. She is booked in for 6 tonight, I am hoping it is not Pyometra and to be honest I do think she would be moore poorly if it was that. She is eating fine this morning. The poos are like cowpats so not liquid which is good but not great either. It is likely she will spend tomorrow at the vets having a scan or xray.

HUGS

Fingers firmly crossed for Ellie! I hope that you can get to the bottom of it. So sorry that you are up against something major so soon again. :(

Thank you, yep has all come at once, what with Maddie, Millie's gas and this. We also have Mabel battling mange mites and possible fungal.

OMG Helen, what a terrible run of health and bad luck you are having. Hope that the vet trip goes well this evening. Big hugs to you and your piggies

Thank you, all others seem ok thankfully, Fuzzy was trying to nick pellets from her neighbours through the grids the other night so she is feeling good which is brilliant. Phoebe is also a bit brighter since being on Quercetin and grainless food.

Are your piggies insured Helen, or does your vet offer you some preferential rates? It must be bankrupting you otherwise.

No they aren't it would be too expensive with 14 of them. We save some money each month as a vet fund but sadly Maddie wiped it out, luckily it is payday tomorrow though most of the vets fund will come from the OH's wages when he gets paid in a weeks time.

Ok we are back from the vets. First of all the poos are much firmer and Jeremy vet wasn't concerned. He had a good feel about and could not feel anything, no tumour, cysts or enlarged uterus, she is not bleeding any more and there is no pus so he wants us to keep her on Septrin for a week and then reassess. If by then she is passing blood again he will scan her.

I am currently thinking over whether to get her scanned anyway by the vet at piggy clinic on Saturday. She made no noises when he was examining her, just let him feel wherever so she is not in pain. She has dropped weight but that has been gradual over the last month due to the change in diet.

Now to encourage her out of her carrier.

All the best for getting to the bottom of it, but glad that it isn't a worst case scenario!

Thank you, am relieved, just a matter of wait and see if she bleeds anymore, going to do a wee test though just to see if anything comes up.

There has been a bit of a development tonight in that we think she may have a UTI, her wee has suddenly become very smelly and she may be a little bit incontinent. She is already on Septrin since last night so that should help. We are giving regular bum baths and will apply Bepanthen so she doesnt get sore. This can also be a symptom of other things though so will keep that in mind.

Hope this is nothing more than a UTI that the septrin can clear up nice and quickly for you.
And bring on payday! Tango and Cash have totally wiped out our vet funds this month too with another £200 already scheduled for next month for Cash so I can sympathise with you there!

Oh you have my sympathies.

She seems brighter this morning, not as smelly, poos are a lot firmer and she didn't need a bum bath. I have noticed her squeaking when going to the loo though. If there is no improvement by Thursday we will get her booked in for a scan or xray to rule out stones (never thought I'd be saying that again so quickly).

Oh no bless you Helen. They worry us so much don't they? Really hope its a URI and clears up quickly. x
