so gizmo has been making this sound every time he eats and it's really starting to worry me. What is it ? He's 7 months old, never been ill before and generally healthy
Sorry I've not heard anything like this but I would get your piggy to the vet today as it could be a uri if he is having difficulty breathing when eating
A vet visit would put your mind at ease and rule out or spot any underlining issues with noisy Gizmo. It could just be nothing but at least if you catch it early there's more likely to be a happy ending. My piggy Mo makes some downright monstrous noises that shouldn't come out of a piggy in my opinion. He'll grunt whilst cleaning and eating and sound like a vacuum cleaner when eating! A strange pig indeed.
One of mine grunts a bit, sounds like yours, I think she just wolfs her food down - but she doesn't grunt at other times at all. If she did that would ring alarm bells, but noisy eaters are not unheard of I agree with the others though, if in doubt, check it out,, especially if it's a new thing.
One of our piggies Ally did this noise a couple of times too.
It seems in his case dust from wood shavings are to blame.
At first I thought he's enjoying his veggies so much hence this noise, but no other piggies made this noise and he started making similar noise while he's asleep and I started to worry.
I tried stopping wood shavings and laid only hay as bedding. It took less than two days that he stopped making this noise. Since then I stick with just hay as bedding.
But if it continued, I would definitely have taken him to the vets.
its sounds like he has snuffling noises, can be a sign of upper/ lower respiratory infection, allergy,or some dust up his nose.all three need to be checked out by a vet,uri can become deadly very quickly if not treated so prompt review by a cavy savvy vet is vital.I hope you get to the bottom of the problem.
Sounds like one of mine did when she used to inhale water from the washed veggies He possibly needs some Bisolvon to clear it up, but worth getting his chest etc checked by the vet. If you wash his veggies & put them in a bowl he could be inhaling the water as he pushes them around with his nose. Mine never did it again once I started scattering their veggies around the cage rather than using a bowl
That sounds like something is up her nose. It could be the start of a URI but it could just be a bit of hay dust.
I had a boy that used to do that one and off all the time. He had poor airways due to a combination of poor health when he was young and genetics. Sometimes he'd sneeze or snort and it would sort him out, other times I had to intervene.
If there's any discharge from her nose it's more likely to be an infection.
Hi guys! Just got back from the vets. She checked his heart and lungs and all seems fine however she noticed something slightly abnormal in his nose throat. She thinks their is either a blocked or an infraction. We got given an antiinflamitry and a painkiller and have to go back in a week if no improvement! Fingers crossed!
