Evacuation Measures for Piggies & Pets

Just a thought, but does anyone have evacuation plans for their piggies? We often worry about what would happen if there was a fire - we would have to grab them and chuck them in a bag at the moment and run for it. We are trying to come up with maybe a divided bag or box that we can get them all into (being boys they will need to be separated) to get them out of the house quickly but haven't managed to find anything suitable.
We have smoke detectors but need to find a way of getting them all out of their various cages (2 in the lounge, 3 in the extension) and into a suitable carrier quickly!
Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts?
 
Probably one of those plastic containers that you can buy all various sizes stored into each other inside a bigger one that you can just put them all into for quickness until you get outside in the open then sort them out into seperate containers. I'm sure in an emergency the gpigs wouldnt have time to attack each other because they would be just as panicked as you would be. Would this sound acceptable
 
I always have boxes at the ready, particularly in Bath when I lived in a second floor flat.
 
Omg I was thinking about that last night I planned it.
I have a shoebox and string, i'd stick lilah in there and lower her with the string out of the window then climb on the porch roof and get down.
I have loads of spare boxes just in case in the shed that I could put the pigs in. Then there is a wheelbarrow round the side of the house i'd put all the boxes in then i'd leg it ;D
 
I have plans for all my guineas in case of evacuation i have 11 hutches
i currently have 7 pet carriers am looking for more freecycle etc
But basically they will get put in to carriers and in to car dogs included and hamster in to part of her rotastak the fish (have tropical tank with about a dozen fish and a cold water tank with Frank the goldfish) will be put in to large bottles/ water carrier all planned in my head OH will be informed if necessary! lol ;D
He'll be co piloting as and when ;D :D
 
I have been trying to think about it as well but as we are upstairs at night and the gp down I'm not sure :-\

I would be that paniced by trying to get my kids out need to sort something out! :embarassed:
 
That's so weird you should post this thread Katie as we were thinking about this the other day. As we only have a small number, even though they are all boys I think I'd grab the nearest box and as Sadie says, I think they would be just as panicked so I would just worry about getting them out of the house first I think then sort them.
 
you could put one in each pocket of your coat ;D or dressing gown :)
 
I've never even thought of this, how awful!

Ron, they often have cat carriers at the tip - they pick them out and sell them for a pound or two - I'll keep an eye out!

Off to think of evacuation plans now - argghhh!

Neither have I :-\
But I guess keep my carrier on top of their cage and its generally open so I guess I could just grab them and go
My bunny is pretty much a smoke detector every time I burn toast he thumps his feet really loudly ;D
Problem is we dont really have another carrier for him he's so small we use the piggies one...I suppose I should get him one too :-\
 
I think about this quite a lot and it scares me!

Charlie the hamster would be put into his carrier, the guinea pigs would probably end up being shoved into a box of some sort and Patch the kitty in his carrier. I use the cat carrier for the piggies too, and the piggies and kitty can't go in it together soo... :-\
 
I always keep pet carrier next to cages so i'd just put them in there after i got my kids sorted (they come first). xx
 
i have carriers next to them in my bedroom so i would just throw them in and run lol but i would also need to get charlie (hamster) not sure what id do with him id prob put him in a smaller carrier or just carry cage :) all my pets are in bedroom with me so we dont need to do any detours etc :)
 
I have 3 carriers that i never take down and I'm sure 28 piggies can be crammed in there for emergency reasons ;D
 
I've got a carrier that can hold them all in the cupboard right across from the kitchen (where the pigs are). We are on the ground floor and have huge Victorian windows so escaping from one of them certainly wouldn't be a problem!
