Ewww - maggots in a Burgess oregano & blackcurrant bag!

I just found some maggots happily crawling around my cubby hole where I store the piggy stuff and could trace them to an unopened bag of Burgess Excel oregano and blackcurrant - the only dry food that I have currently in storage there. First time it's happened to me in all those years! :)>>>

Even though the bag was unopened, were there any small holes in it? My Sis once found a load of maggots in a factory-sealed bag of hay. Where the maggots were, she noticed a tiny hole in the plastic where it'd presumably got slightly ripped in transit and a fly had got in inside the bag. Now I always scrutinise every bag I buy (in store), checking for holes. I always sniff the hay too...I'm sure the shopkeeper thinks I'm a total weirdo!

Yes, I will. I know that these things can happen - it takes only the tiniest of holes and one fly. I'm just hoping that none have made it as far as my kitchen supplies! :{

PS: I didn't see any obvious hole when I bought it.
 
I'm still maggot hunting in the cubby hole; there still seem to be some more at large... NOT my favourite pastime! mallethead

PS: There were more maggots in the bag when I opened it to check to make sure I had the right culprit. Have sent Burgess an email.

The thing is, even when you've cleaned up, you kinda feel all gross and itchy though don't you?!

I hope burgess send you some coupons or something!
 
I had that problem too, just the other week! I opened a new bag to find it full of what appeared to be cobwebs, moths and little caterpillar things. Disgusting.
I took it back to PAH and they replaced it and sent that one back to Burgess.
That type of food is my piggies favourite, so I hope it doesn't happen again.
PS I was impressed at how helpful the staff were at PAH as I didn't have my receipt.

I would deffo complain to them!
Cause I used to get Supreme Reggie Rat for the Degus, and they had meal moth I think its called that they look like maggots, it didnt just happen once it happened a number of times and they sent me two big bags of it out each time!

They will be meal moths!
