Which ones are the best?

I'm currenlty swapping my boys from gerty onto a good nugget and would like to know what nuggets everyone feed.

:)

well .. I have so far bought 2 bags of Science Selective as I wanted to do right by them while they are growing as they came to me on a gerty-style mix.....and they are certainly selective about it - they have turned their noses right up!

Today I bought Excel - one bag of the standard one, and one bag of the blackcurrant one. They seem to have picked out all the blackcurrant pieces, and left the science selective and standard excel!

I must admit like others have said I would like them to like a couple of pellets in case I can't get the blackcurrant one for whatever reason, but I have a feeling that these four are going to be fussy little madams! rolleyes

I dare not introduce Oxbox into the equation just in case they refuse that one too! One thing I will say is that I was surprised at the shape of the blackcurrant ones - nothing like the standard ones. These ones look more like a guinea pig poo!

Well i have samples of both the excel and the selective science nuggets. When i did try mixing a few in with their gerty they refused to eat them!

I did have a sample of the oxbow ones too and they did eat them, thats why i was thinking of getting them but its easier to get the excel ones from a local pet shop, but thats if they will eat them. I dont want them to go hungry as ive read about some pigs refusing to eat nuggets and losing weight.

:)

Mine came off Gerty a couple of months ago, started mixing in a combo of Science Selective, plain Excel and the Blackcurrant and Oregano ones I got from the free sample thread :).First couple of weeks it was all completely ignored then one week they would eat only one plus the Gerty, the next week another and so on. So now they have a mix of all 3 and still seem to prefer a different one each week but at least they got on to nuggets eventually.
Haven't tried the Oxbow yet but thats next on my list :).

I feed Roger and am happy with, the science select, excel and excel blackcurrant and oregano, I have to say he loves the blackcurrant one the best then science one so after we've finished the ord excel bag I'm not getting that anymore jsut the other 2 I did consider the oxbow but decided I'm happy with what he's on.

How long had they been on the gerty and how long did it take you to get them off it?

Sorry for the 100 questions. ")

I was going to try half gerty and half excel nuggets or one bowl of each, but then i suppose that is not changing them over entirely then. :{

They will eat the excel if you persevere and only feed that for a while. Mine were on a museli mix before I changed and every pig that's come here has been put on excel. It may have taken a few days but they all eat it and prefer it to everything else now.

I give oxbow in with the mix but they all didn't like that either to begin but all will now eat that too - although it doesn't go as quickly as the excel (plain)

Mine did used to love the blackcurrant one but it seemed to be a fad as most have gone off it now.

They had been on the Gerty since they they could eat solids, I changed them at about 4 months but they were none too happy about it at the start! It took them about 2 weeks to even try the nuggets, then a couple of weeks of occasional picking but still favouring the Gerty, then after about 5 weeks in total I withdrew the Gerty completely but felt like an evil piggie mummy as they were still favouring it over the nuggets! I was completely neurotic about them not eating which is probably why it took so long, but I was determined as I thought it would be better for them. Had read a thread on here about not changing their food suddenly so I think its best if you half and half for a while.

Hope that helps a bit :)

All of mine are fed on Oxbow Cavy cuisine, When i put them on it from a cheaper food i noticed general health was better and there coats were shinier.
They also love it alot so i wouldnt change mine to anything else now;)
