I have a piggie who never sits still when I have her out and was thinking of getting her one of those exercise balls for guinea pigs for her to burn some energy up but I have heard these are not good for guinea pigs and can damage their spine. Was wondering what peoples experience was with exercise balls for piggies!?

i have heard they can hurt there back and shouldnt be used. Sorry not much help.

Hi

Exercise balls SHOULD NOT be used with Guinea pigs, they can hurt their backs. Do not use them at all.

Piggies should be allow to wander around freely in a run in your room, you can build a indoor run using C+C Grids Hope this helps.

I had a wicker one for my first piggies but read they are dangerous so they only had it when I was there with them - would take it out at night or before I went to work.
I read of someone who's piggy got their head stuck in one so threw the one I had away. They are not good for them.
I despise seeing the stupid harnesses for them as well :)>>> They should be banned.
Entertain your piggy with home made toys, loo roll insides stuffed with hay, strong brown paper bags, cardboard boxes with holes cut out etc.

That was poor little Mabel :0 it was horrible!

I think she means the balls that you put piggies in and as everyone else has said. Please DON'T buy one of these for your piggies! They are very dangerous and will harm your pigs spine.

As for the harnesses malletheadmalletheadmalletheadmalletheadgrrrr

I've not seen these - are they like the ones for hamsters ?
I wonder how many well meaning piggy owners have used them and had injured piggies :(
Why do they sell such s**t - money grabbing sods :o

Thought as much. I do put her out on the floor a couple of times in the evening for a run about but she doesn't seem to want to run around then just when I have her out she is always trying to get off my lap and investigate. Definately won't be buying one of them then.

I have a very strong dislike of exercise balls for any creature and pigs are particularly poorly suited to them.

A nice big run, indoor or out, with plenty of things to investigate is the best way to provide exercise. :)

Yup :( like this http://www.discountedpetproducts.net/MEGA_RUN_ABOUT_BALL_13_RAINBOW-UKP67364.html although on here it says it can be used as a guinea pig carrier?! What the hell?!

I know, surely a toy manufacturer should have an idea as to whether it is suitable for a particular animal or not? grrrr

No probs! You assume that because they sell these things they will be ok for your pets, but i guess we can't assume anything mallethead !

Hehe, sounds like she's a cheeky piggy! Maybe start off with a smaller area first with lots of hidey places as she might just be a bit scared out in the big open :)
