For those who have a pregnant rescue or piggies that were wrongly sexed and are new to the Guinea Pig world.

My Mumma pig just gave birth on July 30th making my piggies a week and a half old and already I'm surprised at the extreme price increase in food, hay, time/effort cleaning their cage way more

While I obviously knew that going from 4 pigs to 7 overnight would be different, please really acknowledge that just over the week mark these little piggies appetites have REALLY started to kick in and also remember that Mumma pig is eating more than she normally does.

Luckily my boyfriend and I both work full time so we can support this but if this happened a couple of months ago when we were between jobs we might have struggled a little bit. But this is something really worth thinking about.

Over the years, i've taken on piggies from pet shops, knowing they're in litter, to provide them with the stability they need. Now I just have the 5, one boar I keep alone (he's 4, lost his pal,a couple of years ago), and 4 girls..
They get everything they need, and have a hay rack full of timothy hay every day and a bed of shavings with meadow hay on top.
The day I have to start rationing hay because of the steep rise in hay prices in general, will be a sad one, but my piggies will always want for nothing, they come first..

Strongly agree there, its the least every piggy deserves. My eldest was a rescue of sorts, and because she had a difficult first couple of years I give her everything she wants now (including friends, food & cuddles!) - I think she deserves it.
