Lily seems to have an extra nail. It's just under and just to the side of the main toe nail. It is about the same length but about half the width.

Is it OK to stay? What should I do? I wondered if it was her roan gene....

I've had piggies with extra toes before, some more formed than others, some dangling by a thread... I think as long as they're not causing any problems, I'd leave it be.

There's a name for it - not that I can remember what it is at the mo!

Yes, two nails from one toe!

It does make her special and I am happy to leave it as it is.

Do you think the roan gene might be why it's happened?

The Roan gene would not cause extra toes....but.....there is bit of a link with Roans.
Smooth coated Roans were first bred from Roan Abyssinians (because Abys were the only known breed with roan colouring). Often pet roans have a Roan Aby parent or grandparent. Abys are very prone to getting extra toes and it could well explain why roan pets would get them.

My Huxley is an aby/peru x & he has an extra toe (attached by a tiny bit of skin) - it doesn't bother him so i've left it & clip that nail the same as i do the rest of them :)
