One of my rodents has had a snotty nose and runny eyes since last September, he had a course of baytril at Christmas time in case it was a lung infection but that made no difference so I’ve been presuming its hay fever. He’s absolutely fine in himself but more recently I’ve been kind of shocked by the amount of snot build up around his nose. For the last week or so he’s been covered in it. He obviously doesn’t try cleaning himself and it just dries straight away and goes rock hard and builds up. I’ve been attempting to knock off bits with tissue paper twice a day but I tend to leave it because I don’t want to be peeling his fur off with it but I’m starting to worry it’s coming to the point where it’s actually withstricting his breathing, he does sound a little raspy if I put my ear right up to his nostrils. Can rodents die from hay fever? Or is he not really bothered by all the snot? He isn’t sneezing and acts normal. Another thing is, could freshly cut grass be making it worse? I doubled the rodents daily grass intake in spring when it became readily available, they love it, it’s the only thing I can think of which could be the cause of his snotty nose getting worse more recently. & yes he sleeps on hay and no I don’t want to get vetbed. He also has on/off runny eyes that I dry up or check twice a day, one eye is always worser than the other.

Please have him checked by a vet in case it is respiratory tract infection or he has something stuck in his nose.

He urgently needs a vet. He will be feeling so poorly. Guinea pigs hide their illnesses. Please take him as soon as possible.

As everyone else has said your best option right now is a vet,

It could be some form of respiratory infection, or it may some sort of allergic reaction, other possibilities could be some form of blockage in the nose or another form of illness causing this similar to the human cold, it may be a case of trying different medications and treatments and till something works, although i wouldn't think it was hay fever and my piggie has this and only gets watery eyes from it, nothing from his nose, although i guess every pigs different. But the only way to sort this is via a professional.

As said, seeing a vet is the best idea. Try and ask for some Bisolvin powder too, this is great at decongesting and helping to remove excess mucous. If your piggie is actually struggling to breath with it then you need to see a vet tonight.
