Hello,

I have two male piggies - Pip and Peri. Pip is quite elderly at 5 year old and was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer last week and has been seperated from Peri for a week now. He was separated due to Peri constantly licking his eye. I feel terrible separating them and want to put them back together but I am worried that Peri's licking will aggravate Pip's eye even more and prevent his treatment from working.

Does anyone have any advice? Am I doing the right thing by keeping them separated until Pip's treatment is finished and his eye is better, or, would it be okay to put them back together? They both miss each other so much.

Thanks in advance,

Did the vet tell you to separate them then?

No he did not. He didn't say much tbf it was very much like take this antibiotics and leave... :/ The licking is constant and it has been like this for momths so I wonder if the licking has actually caused the infection.

I’m not too sure how licking would cause infection. And I don’t know that it could make the ulcer worse. Do you know what caused it in the first place? And what exactly do you mean by constant?

I think he’s probably trying to help. Separation could cause more problems - anxiety for them and need for formal reintroduction. I would speak to the vet about this. I wouldn’t separate unless the vet confirmed this was an injury caused by the other. If the eye licking has been going on for months has the eye problem been going on for months?
