So there is this precious little girl I adopted/rescued about two weeks ago, Sunflower! We got her into the vet this past Monday and had her looked at, vet said no urgent issues. Just needs to get her nutrition back really. I asked him to look at her eye in the mean time to make sure it was alright seeing as it's been watery and she has been having "eye boogers" as well ass constantly(!) squinting. He said he saw no cornea scratch so not to worry. I am NOT happy with that response. There is clearly something wrong. As I stated before always watery, boogers, constant squinting- basically to the point of closing. What safe routes are there that I can take for cleaning it out? I think she has a few scratches along her lash lines because they're quite red there but I'm also not 100% sure. Her eye lid is also incredibly swollen. I know they're not great photos but here is what I have.

I think it could be a number of things...
Could be a hay poke, could be something stuck in the eye, an upper respiratory infection (URI) which would be very serious but that's not to say it's definitely that.
To be honest I wouldn't be happy with that response either. Did he thoroughly check the eye with a torch and/or dye?

Not a URI, no sneezing, no runny nose, only one eye but still watching for the time being to be sure. And he did nothing of that sort, just spread the eye and looked. So I'm hoping to find a eye solution that I can use on her eye to see if it helps at all and then if not call again and set an appointment with someone else. I know prolonged issues can create bigger issues so if anyone knows of some solution I can buy please let me know.

I'd phone/take her back. I had my Beans at the vets yesterday for an eye issue, it was cloudy and inflamed.
She had a good look in both eyes with a torch and there's also an orange dye that can be put in their eye which would show up any scratches or ulcerations. I was given Maxitrol eye drops to use 3x daily. I wasn't able to get my normal cavy savy vet yesterday as it closes early on a Saturday but I will be going to see her on Monday just to be absolutely certain about the eye drops

At the moment I don't have the funds to take her back, recently paid all bills which as we all know can rack up. Ended up paying 100 dollars for just that visit to be told nothing serious and not to worry and not even gotten a thoural check. That's why I'm asking about the eye drops, which would be safe and accessible "over the counter" and etc.

I could be wrong but I don't think there's anything strong enough that would treat an infection without a prescription. There's Optrex eye drops available over the counter that can be used to rinse the eye out but it wouldn't clear any infection.

Would it be possible to phone and explain that you feel like she wasn't checked properly?
I know how expensive vet visits can be I've spend over £400 in a month for my two:yikes:

I have 9 little babies so I definitely understand. I do plan to call when they are open and see what they say as well but don't feel like it would be any luck. Still hoping someone will be able to give a reccommendation on something for a just incase. Fingers crossed!

It just seems very unfair that you've had to pay the money but didn't actualy get a proper eye examination. And I'm no vet but that eye definitely does not look good.

Is she eating/drinking/acting normal?

She eats like she's been starved, drinks normally, acts normal as well. The her "history" is scarce but she had some skin issue, not sure what it was but treated with invermectin incase, she wasn't treated properly before I had her, the people didn't know about guinea pigs what so ever and were probably lacking in essentials that she needed and etc. The vet guy said he just thinks she needed to get her nutrition back and that's all. She has the eye issue though which like I said when I asked him about just told me no cornea problems so wouldn't worry about it rn. But again seeing as eye issues could worsen quite easily and quickly I'm not happy with the lack of concern or answer.

She's the sweetest girl I have ever met. I think she's been bred/had babies. Her skin condition seems to be getting better, now my main concern is the eye. Just the one, looks like there could be some injuries. There is swelling, the watery eye, the boogers, constant squinting/closing of the eye.

Yeah that eye us ringing alarm bells... what is your vet like? Experienced with guinea pigs?
It's good that's she's eating and drinking thought and being herself

It could be something stuck between the eyeball and the lining that is causing constant irritation, but that is definitely an inflamed eyelid that needs treatment. :(

Do you know any diy at home remedy options I can take till I can get into the vets/call them back?

No, I don't. I would be reluctant to fiddle on spec with something where you have no idea what is at the root of it.
