Hi all, I am new to this and really need some help please 🙏. My guinea pig has had a problem with his right eye for months now and after spending hundreds, over 2 vet practices, I am still none the wiser. He is a male called Zimba who developed a small inflammation on his lower lid which looked a bit sore although didn’t seem to bother him. It seems to flare up, then get a little better, as a pattern.
Vets have mentioned chlamydia? Ulcer etc but don’t seem to really know. He’s had several different eye drops, antibiotic drops etc but nothing.
I’m tired of using these things, that he doesn’t like and getting no response. Please does anyone have any ideas or even know what this could be? I would be very grateful for any input please

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry; it is very frustrating when you are up against persistent conjunctival problems.

Here is a link to chlamydia in guinea pigs with an overview, which is the best I can come up with. I have no personal experience with it, nor have we seen many/any cases on this forum so we cannot provide much in the way of tips or practical information, unfortunately. None of has the necessary medical scope on here; we can only go by precedent with our own piggies.

Wishing you all the best.

A few years ago @PigglePuggle 's sow Blodwen was diagnosed with probable chlamydia by a specialist vet, I recall. Though her symptoms were lung-related, honky breathing etc, not in the eyes.

This is the thread which mentions it Specialist vet Molly Varga in St Helens? Perhaps some of the info in that might be useful?
