Hi all.

I have been a bit worried about mouseypig over the last few days. He seems to be eating fine, but just finding it a little more difficult than normal, but the next minute he will be taking chunks out of his veg with no problem!

I looked at him very closely the other day while he was eating to see if I noticed anything like him dropping food out of his mouth, and I noticed his whole eyeball was moving around in the socket while he was eating. I can't say I have seen the same thing on Nigel, though he is all black so it's much harder to see on him.

I am worried he may have the beginnings of dental problems, if anyone could tell me about the eye thing I would be grateful! :{

Hi, just from my experience in the past few day.... I no there can be a problem with the teeth growin into the eye sockets? Is there discharge from the eyes?

I have just read that myself! Eek! I hope that isn't the case, but no his eyes are perfectly clear and he isn't showing any signs of pain.

Strange? if they were growing up you would imagin he would be in pain and not eating, :0it could just be *** he dose?

How much is it moving? And is it definitely just the one eye?

You can sometimes see a very small movement of the eyes due to the action of the jaw muscles but if it's just one eye and a lot of movement (really noticeable, like a rat boggling) I'd be concerned.

I'd say he's better off going to the vets and them saying he's absolutely fine than leaving it and finding out it's something bad, eye and dental problems are things that want checked out sooner rather than later.

Hope he is okay. :)

Thanks, It was both eyes and I suppose it was a small movement, I'll get him out later and have a good look at him eating x I have never seen or heard of a rat 'boggling' before! Off to google!

Ok, so I have had mousey out for his nightly veg and he is eating it as normal with very minimal eye movement, and no difficulty, eating completely normally.rolleyes

It may have been that the sunlight was shining on his eyes or something, making it look more exaggerated than what it was! I suppose I'm still a bit paranoid about the pigs since I lost my other 2.

I have googled rat's boggling and how funny is that! I love it! But no it wasn't as much movement as that at all, thank goodness :)

I just had my Lucille to the vet recently for this same thing. Everything checked out fine. I tried to explain the best I could to the vet what I was seeing. I had only had her for two nights. The vet thought that maybe it was her just being extremely nervous. She was quite skittish, as she wasn't quite aquainted with us yet. I am noticing it less. She was rescued, so I have no idea how old she is or what kind of care she had before we got her. The vet said he couldn't rule out a brain issue completely, but he thought it was unlikely. The only way I can describe it is to say her eyes look like they are floating in their sockets, and sometimes rolling up and down very slowly.

I hope your gp is ok. Lucille is a very good eater, and seems to feel just fine.
