hi there, MY name is Jackie and i need some answers. This morning i woke up to my mummy guinea pig dead. She had 2 babies about 2 weeks ago and am very saddend by it. Anyway rang up the pet shop and got some all round feeder and some bottles, the lady explained that i have to feed them 30 mls each, 4 times a day. Have so far been only able to give them about 5 mls each. I assume it will take them a little bit to get used to the new supply of milk, just wanting to know if i should be worried about them not getting the 30 mls each 4 times a day? thanks in advance.

Hi! I am very sorry about the loss of your mum.

Here are tips for hand feeding orphans from the best medical website for guinea pigs. It is better to use powdered, hay based foods developed for rodents that are not able to eat - Critical Care etc. You can get theat from a vet quickest.

Many rescues active on here also use full fat goats milk (which is closest to guinea pigs milk) with good success. Since the babies are already bigger, soak cubed wholemeal bread with it so that the babies can nibble on the cubes to complement the normal adult diet.

At two weeks old, your pups should be able to mostly eat adult food already, so you need not worry too much. Please weigh them daily! Do not syringe them - they could die if it is done wrongly!
