Following my recent split and loss of car, I have been finding it difficult to get to shops who provide decent veg. They have been on lettuce, cucumber and yesterday, carrot.

Will this make them ill? I feel terrible. :(

ps. they are on muesli food with grass that has extra vit c. Also, does garden grass and dandelion leaves provide anything?

to be honest i have cut right down on the veg for my guinea pigs - i was finding they were wasting a lot of veg and was spending about £30 per week, so now they just have their dried food, hay and something veggy in the morning i.e. two pieces of round lettuce with a piece of carrot and some beansprouts and they always get a slice of cucumber in the evening and sometimes they will leave some of the beansprouts - all mine are a good weight and I've never had a problem with vitamin c deficieny (spelling)

don't think grass does but read that clover does so maybe dandilion too? slightly of tack why don't you try an online supermarket shop? Co-op do free delivery, not sure what your are closest too but my supermarket.com compares tesco, asda, sainsburys and Ocodo and you can do a quick shop list and it show you where it is cheapest and special offers. Lettuce was on the 'daily' list i think as long as it's not Iceberg x

p.s Sainsburys veg i find is best although asda is a bit cheaper doesnlt seem to last very long.

They have little gem, they love it. :)

Didn't realise Co-op did it free, that would be fantastic cos I always used to get my veg from there.

Clover as in 4 leaf clovers? I have loads of them in the garden. :)

CO-Op van said it on the side. also if you spend £40 sainsburys is only £3.50 tue,wed, thurs and i founf their veg has good choice and lasts well past it's 'best before' date.

Yeah they shouldn't eat too much but they don't really well my boys don;t anyway. will find the post for you 8;)

I'm sure it's fine, they don't need anything fancy. :)

I often just feed mine lettuce, carrot and cucumber, because it's cheap. But then they often get other things when we have them left over, peelings from other veg, bits of pepper and broccoli, or apple, etc. but not every day.

Dandelion counts as veg, grass as damp hay. They can eat clover flowers - I have had generations of piggies who have done so without problems.

Try to find veg dishes where you can share veg with your piggies and then freeze an extra portion for yourself for another time.

i heard that lettuce isnt that good as its mainly just water with no real vitamins...i guess romaine lettuce is ok, as i can feed that for my budgie :) They really like broccoli and green beans, and theyre usually easy to get hold of :)

I think it's iceberg that is really bad for this other lettuce types are less watery i think. :{

my pigs get dandelion leaves nearly every day, carrots some days, celery quite a lot and peppers when i buy a big bag plus any bits and pieces from meals etc. I tend to get whats seasonal or on offer for them. They dont get loads of veg just over a handful each a day. i read that is what they are supposed to get. i definitely dont spend a fortune!
