It makes me so sad that boars are often overlooked 😞 My little Edward was neutered in rescue so he could live with girlies but he’s the sweetest little thing as was my late Enoch who was also neutered in rescue. I wish that boars didn’t have such a bad reputation and I wish I could rescue every single one of them 😞
 
Given the two boars I have are the only piggies I’ve ever had I therefore don’t have experience of sows but I absolutely adore my boys! They are such funny characters. Much to my husbands despair, I have plans hatching for the empty hutch in my garden...I’m hoping to be able to get another pair of boars some time.
I seem to prefer male animals though - the female rabbits I’ve had in the past have been pretty scary, as in plotting to remove your hand when you feed them scary, but the boys have always been so friendly and and just want to be loved.

I prefer boars. I get scared of sows ovarian problems. Burnie is my third boar.
 
We recently adopted our first boar, after many years of a sows only household, and I must say that he's been an absolute delight. We really only considered a boar because it was proving hard to find a single sow to pair with one of our bereaved girls. He's called Toby, and he's such fun - I've never known such a popcorner! Mind you, I think his friend Ruffles gets a bit fed up with his exuberant and frequent mounting of her! (Don't worry, he is neutered!)
 
I've only ever had boars, and to be honest I likely only ever will have boars. I have nothing against sows, but boars get such a bad rap sometimes. Comet always endeared himself to anyone and everyone who met him and Blitzen was there because a good hero always needs a sidekick, lol. Those two were the best entertainment I could've had, even at 2am when I was trying to sleep and they decided to have a "moment" instead. Besides, watching them try to mount each other and fall off instead was hilarious. Every time, boys, every time.
 
I'm so glad we got our little boar Theo, he takes life much less seriously than the girls and just basically enjoys everything that happens to him (except turnips). I always see sad lone boars in the free ads and wish I could help them but I wouldn't want Theo to feel threatened, I want him to always feel like the most special little guy ever after his bad start in life!
 
My boar is less touchy than my sow, she hates any music on in the house, a slight noise and she is outa there.

My boar does zoomies when i hoover, sow will run and hide

You're right about boars being brave. My friend came around with her Patterdale Terrier (Molly) the other day. She was on the lead in the garden but the smell of the piggies in the hutch was just too tempting. She went over to have a look and a sniff. Christian (dominant boar) was right up nose to nose with her (hutch door was firmly closed in between them) for a couple of minutes finding out what this new strange animal was that was having a sniff. Molly's tail was wagging furiously. Then all of a sudden Molly's demeanor completely changed as Christian decided he didn't like dog and went into his bum wagging very deep rumble mode (completely different to rumblestrutting to attract the girls) as he was defending his herd. I felt very proud of him being so brave.

My boars Dennis and Christian are brothers and are the best of friends. Christian is the more dominant one and is always rumblestrutting away telling the girlies what a big strong boy he is. I have only heard Dennis rumblestrut a few times. They live quite happily together with 3 girlies (Not sure how I have managed this cos it shouldn't work but it does:))). Velvet is the really dominant sow and whatever she says goes. Christian is the dominant boar and is now higher in the rankings than Betsy (who was next in line to Velvet). Betsy has cataracts and is quite happy to have relinquished being 2nd in command, then we have Dennis and shy little Meg last.

Boars are very lovely. My Rainbow piggies Lenny and Gizmo were such little characters and used to zoomie and popcorn all the time. When they popcorned they would jump very high in the air and clap their back feet with their front feet all the time.

Its lovely how boars can be very brave defending the herd then totally submissive to their lady friends the rest of the time!
Regarding the rumblestrutting Theo seems to have negotiated 10 minutes rumble strutting time twice a day on wednesdays on saturdays when they move into the playpen, then back into the clean cage. Each new territory he's allowed to claim big manly ownership of for 10 minutes until the girls get bored of it. Any other rumble strutting is by prior arrangement with a lady coming into season, or he gets his bum nipped and ears pulled :)
 
Theo is very well trained by his ladies, but until he met the girls his previous experience of other guinea pigs was being bullied in a pet shop as a baby (he has very tattered ears) and until he came home with us his previous experience of humans was 5 weeks from hell spent living alone in his filthy cage with an awful family who shouted at him and argued with each other about his cage needing cleaning out. They were quite frank about this, the mother said she "couldnt stand listening to that bloody animal squeaking away in the other room sitting in his own sh*t while my daughter ignores it" :(
He's heart breakingly eager to please everyone and avoid conflict! Every tummy tickle from us or ear lick and snuggle from the ladies he popcorns about the place, he loves being told he's a "good boy" in a happy voice then he rolls on his back and squirms about and nuzzles us like a puppy :)

Comet had no girls to impress and I was still panicky the neighbours would hear him, he was that loud. Most of the time Blitzen would ignore him, but occasionally he'd join in and I'd just sit there, head in hands, thinking my neighbours were going to file complaints lol.
 
Cufflinks is the only boar in a herd of six guinea pigs. He is by far the most laid back and easy to handle of them all.

He is quite the popcorner too!

What a bad life he had before he came to you! Luckily he found you and you have given him a lovely life.

I hate some people. So glad he found you, sometimes my local pets@home tell me that its not uncommon to find pets at the doors in the morning after christmas or after easter. When I'm on route i drive through and have a little look

He was only 15 weeks old or maybe more like 12 weeks and everyone lied about his age the vet said because he was so small. Now he's 10 months old and chubby and will never be alone again except when he retreats to his private man loft for a bit if peace and quiet away from his wives!
