ive got pcos (polycystic ovaries) and been trying for a baby for well over a year and got nowere and my doctor wont help me. i just want to cry :( just wonderd if anyone else on here has been threw this?

I haven't but I knew a girl with PCOS and my friend also has just been told she has it. They assume they are now infertile or is just a chance you are? Anyways, all I can suggest is (apart from making sure your both free of STDs) go unprotected. It took my other friend 1 1/2 years to conceive and she apprantly was perfectly healthy. If you worry it could hinter what your doing :) I think it's silly when people follow these overy timetables. <3

You are right about getting stressed about it I also have pcos and it took 2 years to fall on with my daughter with no help from my gp all I got for 1 and a half years was keep trying you need time for the pill to get it out of your systyem how long did they think I had to wait before they might have thought that maybe they might be something else wrong with me. On my ninth visit to my doctors I just broke down and cryed it was only then he said he would send me to see a specilist, be time I was told the problem it had been two years. They put me straight on pill to help me fall on but just knowing that they was more to it then the other problem of the pill I then relaxed and became less stessed, I took the pill for two months and all the time I felt sick, lost my appitite and took to eating oranges. I dont know what made me think I might be pregnent but I peed on the dreaded stick and sure enough I was. After having to go for a dating scan they found me to be 9 weeks pregnent, it turns out I had fallen on on my own the first week I started to take the pills lol it just shows you what happens when you relax. I also have a boy I tried on my own and it took me a year and a half. I wish you luck and do some destressing you never know xx

Oh and def throw the time table away and have some fun with it lol. If you ever need to talk just ask can give you my contact details anytime.

I have PCOS and was diagnosed by a scan when I was 17 and told I'd need help to conceive, I now have an almost 3 year old and a 15 month old :)) My daughter (eldest) wasn't actually planned, but I fell pregnant with her after switching to a very low GI diet and losing a lot of weight by doing so, previously I'd go months and months between periods, but changing my diet dramatically and losing weight really seemed to kick start my ovaries, and I then fell with my son when she was 10 months old, on the first night of trying, (again after losing the baby weight from number 1) after assuming it would take much longer due to PCOS so starting trying for number 2 earlier than I ideally wanted to!

Since having my son my periods haven't returned (I am still breastfeeding but would still have expected them to return by now) and I suspect it's because my diet is poor again and I'm about 4 stone heavier than I was pre-babies, so for me diet, and weight loss is most definitely the key to my fertility.

hun I feel your pain. I am 99% sure I have PCOS as well but I'm too worried to have it confirmed. Have been trying since i was 19 I'm now 22. I really thought I was pregnant last month I had all the symptoms, the date I could test was xmas day so I was excited-negative! Its really really getting me down now but I'm too scared that a doctor will tell me I cant have kids as I have clinical depression and I think it would tip me over the edge. If ever you need to chat I'm here. Are you on babyandbump.com ? lots of like minded women on there. I am going to try and loose a ton of weight and eat healthy and see how that goes.
good luck xxxxx

i have poly cystic ovaries and have 4 children :)

when i was trying for a baby i was put onto Metformin its a drug used in diabetes but it was found that women with polycystic ovaries who took this drug every day 80% conceived in 9 mths of taking it.

i conceived in 6 mths of taking it, you do get a bit of the runs for the first few days on it but it does settle down, polycystic ovaries is a hormones imbalance and it was found that metformin settled your hormone imbalance and made your body produce eggs and ovulate, i had 20 cysts on one ovary and 15 on the other, when i had a scan 7 mths after taking the metformin by which time i was 4 wks pregnant all the cysts had gone, i then went on to have my other children with out any treatment, defo worth asking your dr to try you on it as it worked for me and i was told i would need my womb removing the year later, well that was 7 yrs ago and my youngest is 19mths old x

my sister tried 4 yrs for a baby then it was found she wasnt ovulating and was put on clomiphene she conceved in the last mth of taking it (6mths) she then went on to have another baby with out treatment and her youngest is 18mths old and oldest 2yrs old we were both preg the same time lol

aww thanks for the help n cheering up :) I'm going to go to the doctor n ask them if i can go on that drug you were talking about claire and do some research on it. even though ive been trying for a year and a half do you think their say its too early to go on pills?

i was trying 18mths and the dr was really good when i told them about this artical in the mag about metformin and he said oh yes its been licenced for pcos for 2 wks that was 7yrs ago and it worked really well for me, defo worth a try x

it does give you the runs for a few days but once your body is used to it , it stops so in all around a week to settle and the tummy pains stop, but its defo worth it x

As Clairelove said I think Metformin does help, I'm on it and I'm not trying for a baby but it has done a lot for regulating my body etc. You should get it prescribed by your doctor.
I also have to say eating healthy and exercise is good, losing weight helped me a hell of a lot, though I put some back on and soon noticed my body went wrong again.
Clomi-whatsit, that Clairelove was also talking about is very good too for concieving.

If you are trying to concieve then yes you need specialist help sometimes, just bug your doctor into referring you to one. Most general doctors are rubbish with pcos! Truly!

I also am a bigger lady I do belive it dose not help things, I had the same problem with my first baby my periods went away but I still went on the pill but never had a bleed in between. Before I would have once every 6 months this is normal for me other then when I started my periods at 15 years of which was the other way realy heavy and none stop, I was put on the pill to help regulate them. But after my son I went back to been none stop and very heavy I then put my self on the depo injection which seemed to do the trick. They say it is normal for somebody with pcos to not have no periods at all but they also say if you have a baby the the pcos should improve. I too breast feed both children .

I used to have a book on PCOS and GI foods and fertility, there's a lot to suggest that people with PCOS are insulin resistant which is why a low GI diet can help to regulate things, there's quite a good article here

My mum suffers from clinical depression so I no what you are thinking but look at it like this maybe the only way to move forward is to go and find out if they is a problem and even thiough it will makes you sad to know these days they is alway something you can do to or work to to make it happen and I find with my mum if she has a goal she is always much better in her self and much more happier. This is just a thought hope you dont mind me saying thanks Nicky.

I agree you must lay it on thick and do your own research and put your case forward, might even ask about this drug myself great stuff they might be a light at the end of the tunnel.

I GAINED weight on slimming world, because with the new extra easy days I ate lots of rice/pasta etc.

I'm going to start a new GI diet as soon as our kitchen is sorted in the hope that will regulate things, insulin resistance is very linked to mood etc as well.
