There seemes to be no end to the problems my piggies are having :( They've just recovered from mange mites, but still haveopen sores from where they have been scratching, which are healing but are taking a long time. Luna now cries whenever you touch her tummy and one of her nipples is crusty. Nova recovered from fungal but now Breeze has it on her ear and face, so i am treating ALL 6 pigs for that again. Buddy's abcess has come back, and is now even bigger...and nthis abcess was caused by his neutering in December.
He's booked in at the vets at 11:50, so hopefully he will be ok. I'm asking for antibiotics this time whether they offer or not, as it needs to be sorted.
I feel like it's all my fault as I am only here every 2 weeks to give them a thorough health check, my parents have enough to do with feeding and cleaning all the animals, let alone checking each one :( I move back on May 5th thankfully but so many more things could go wrong before then :( I just don't know what to do, maybe I am just not destined to be a piggy owner anymore, everything always goes wrong despite my best efforts :(
Sorry for the rant, I'm just really upset by this today...8...

I had a similiar rant yesterday, Things do feel better this morning I have had them out and had some cuddles.

It's good to remember why we own pigs, they are just so adorable. Shame they can't stay healthy!

Hugs to you both, you are both wonderful piggy slaves. Jaycee, I know things willl be so much better when you are home in May.

We have had a lot of illness at the moment too, all have had to be treated for fungal as Johnny had it, then Buzz got it too, Gertie has been on steroids for her scratching (just been weened off them) which turned out to be psychological, then there is all the stuff going on with Nigel.

I'd just like to remind everyone how Hardy Guinea Pigs are they never get ill! rolleyes.

Checks bank balance, it tells a different story! :x

Don't be sad, we all go through this I've just posted again about Maisie's op. There always seem to be something going on. With me if it's not the piggies its the cats. Sometimes there comes a little doubt as to whether its all worth it then I think where would I be without them and just carry on doing the best I can. Hugs to you xx

Thanks everyone :)
The vet didn't flush the abcess, which I thought was a bit odd! But I had cleaned it lots before we saw her. She gave him an antibiotic injection and he's on 0.2ml of Baytril twice daily now. Another job for Mum while I'm away! Just hope this solves it! She wants to see him again a week on Monday so Mum will have to do that. Can't wait to be home so I don't have to leave everything to my parents!

Jaycee, sorry for coming into the thread like this and it might sound a bit stupid but how did you find out about the abcess- what did it look like etc. Thanks

Hi I just wanted to point out that you are NOT a bad mummy to your piggies how can you be when you take them to the vets and make sure that they are looked after when you have to go to uni. I think if you where a bad mummy that you would just leave them not bother with the vets and not really care how they are looked after when your not about. Don't beat yourself up hun by the sounds of it your doing fab.

I have to agree, although I do to think what am I doing wrong. At the end of the day some people don't even notice when they are ill or they do and don't go to the vet. xx

I picked him up and there was nasty smelling puss all over his tummy! :( When i cleaned it up it was like a hole in his tummy, basically :( Second time it has happened. Because he is so fluffy, it's very hard to see if he has a lump down there.

UPDATE!
Mum just called; He's been back to the vets today, it's almost healed but theres a tiny hole with watery discharge. The vet has put him on another 2 weeks of Baytril and says if this doesn't sort it, he'll have to be opened up and have the infected tissue removed....which I REALLY hope doesn't happen as that is how Spud died :(
Just gotta keep an eye on his diet and check he doesn't get the runs.

The vets have charged me for the consultation though, which I don't think they should have as this is classed as post operative care which is included in what I paid for the operation! I'll pay whatever I need to for him to be healthy but think it's a bit cheeky of them!
