Filing Down Nails, Wood Shavings, But Going Fleece.

Hey

Unsure where to put this to be honest,

Currently Barbeque and Nibbles are in a rabbit 120 cage, with wood shavings which we were told help to keep nails down, but will be putting them into a C&C cage pretty quickly cos they are messy little scamps and wood shavings and hay goes EVERYWHERE

I've recently had a bathroom refitted and have a few extra unused bathroom tiles and was thinking that if I have an area of upside-down tiles where some hay will be kept, if it would help to file their nails.
My concern is weather or not its a good idea or if it would be too coarse on their feet...

Any ideas ?

I always put meadow hay in a cat litter tray & scatter Timothy hay around. I prefer fleece to wood shavings the dust upsets mine

Just a few rough tiles won't prevent you from having to cut nails. Make sure that there is nothing on the tiles they can rip the skin on soles of their feet on. Unless it is very hot, you piggies won't use a tiled are much; like humans, they are gluttons for creature comforts.

Make sure that you fleece is absorbent (i.e. conditioner-free) and that you have got an absorbent underlay of some sort underneath to take care of the pee and keep the surface dry. Have hay in trays or hay lofts, or have a hay tray underneath your rack. You have to brace yourself that you'll notice lots of poos and have to remove them daily.

The idea is to have old towels on the cortex whereever I put it, and then fleece covering the towels, bulldog clipped to the correx to keep it all in place...

Obviously open to other suggestions as well with pics and links if possible?

I'd like to make a nice happy place for the little ones as well as making my life easier too.... I know, the trade off :p

Here's my current set-up. An old photo but it's the same now.

Hay at both ends. It's puppy pads with woodshavings/megazorb, then sleeping hay and a handful of eating hay.

The middle is fleece with puppy pads under it to soak up the pee.
