Tomorrow, Junior is booked in for his castration :(

He will be six months old this month and had his pre-op check at the vet on Friday.

I have never had a boar neutered at such a young age but the vet was happy that he was a good weight (800g) and in good condition with bright eyes, a clear nose and healthy lungs and heart.

I hate doing this to him but I want him to be able to live in a herd and not continue living on his own.

Fingers crossed that all will go well for him. I love him to bits and would hate anything to happen to him! x>>

I will cross everything that Junior will sail through the op!
Let us know how he gets on x>>

fingers crossed for Junior x

Yes, all fingers crossed for Junior - let us know when he's safely home.

Good luck Junior, it will all be worth it in the end! I hope everything goes well x

Good luck Junior!

I found that my boars who were castrated young (4 months and 6 months) turned out a lot different to Frankie, who was neutered at 3 years old. You know that saying, that men think about sex every six seconds? That's Franklyn. I tell you, he has way too much testosterone in him. :))

My other two boys are/were the softest, gentlest and most adoring characters I've known.

Thanks everyone.

Junior is back home now, tucked up safely indoors with me for the night. He had his operation at 2pm and I collected him at 6pm. He is quite active considering his op today and I have tempted him to eat with some lettuce as a treat.

His wound looks good ... he is back for a post-op check on Wednesday afternoon.

I did feel mean doing this to him but hopefully all will ok.

aww, keep us updated to his progress please! i hope he's ok,little sweety xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That is great news, it all sounds good! Keep us posted on his progress :)

He will be absolutely fine - I had a boar in for castration today too - its quite remarkable how they just seem to shrug it off when they get home. He will soon be running about with all his laydeeeees thanking mummy for making it happen...........

Love Helen.

Great news Goldie. How's he doing today?

Thanks everyone. Junior seems to be doing fine today. I kept him in overnight so that he was warm and I could keep an eye on him.

He is passing poos and wees ok and also eating tempting food.

I have popped him back in his hutch in the shed tonight but not on woodshavings because of his wound. He seemed happy to hear the others in the shed so fingers crossed all is ok for him and very soon he will have friends to live with! :)

I'm so glad he's doing well... I've been biting my nails checking all the threads for guineas with problems hoping for some good news, and this qualifies. :)p

Junior had his first post-op check and all was good.

I did think that he looked a little swollen "down below" more so than when I had Rikkyboy, Shaun and Stuart neutered. His wound was checked and he didn't mind her having a feel about so obviously in no discomfort. She took his temperature which was fine.

No sign of infection, although I think he does still seem a little off his food but I am sure he will get his appetite back soon.

Another check for him again in one week.

That is good news, it will all be worth while soon! How many wives does he get to have? :))

Well, Junior was popcorning around his hutch today. Up and down vertically with his head going from side to side and then running in and out of his bedroom.

I reckon he is a happy piggy and he has fully recovered from his operation.

Not long to go now until he has some company again! :)

Hope all goes well, my peter was done last month a week before he was 6 months old and he was fine and has been fine since. he was a bit sulky when i brought him home and wasnt happy that i was trying to shove a syrnge in his mouth but once he tasted the antibiotics he loved them and came back to he ususal self. i gave him lots of cucumber and tried to leave him alone as i didnt want to cuddle him too much. kept him inside with lots of blankets which he was rather unimpressed about.

I am sure he will adore his new women! Make sure you share pics of him and his new ladies when they are all settled. :)
