Hey everyone,
Did anyone have any problems with fireworks last night? My 2 weren't so keen on them but luckily we were leaving for holiday shortly after the fireworks started and once they were in the car they fell asleep. I fear tonight won't be so easy. Does anyone have any tips how to support guinea pigs through fireworks. They live indoors but can still hear them and it still seems to scare them quite a bit.

I’ve been having some problems with all of my animals with the fireworks, it’s why I feel fireworks shouldn’t be available to the public and only used in arranged demonstrations by professionals.

For my Guinea Pigs I have been making sure they have lots of dark areas to snuggle up in together,
I’ve heard that playing soft music in their room can help calm them down, as it’s something to drown out the noise.

My Cats and Rabbits have also been unerved by them so I’ve been setting up boxes and a blanket fort for my cats to sit in, it seems like somewhere dark and covered seems to make them feel better, Koda my cat ran straight into the box I put down and Thumper my Rabbit burrowed himself in the large load of straw I put into their hutch, and I closed them up so they would feel safer.

I hope everyone’s animals stay safe tonight.

I think it’s also important to mention that some horrible people in my area have been known to take friendly cats and attach fireworks to them for their own amusement.
So I urge people to bring their cats inside for the next few days.

I too feel that fireworks shouldn't be available to the public and there should only be properly arranged displays.

That's awful about the cats. Who do people think they are :( Thankfully my two come in at 5 and then they're in for the night.

I worry about my cat every year. He's a bit feral so I can't bring him in at night :(

It's always a worry when they don't come in but sadly you can't force cats :( Do you have a cat kennel or anything in your garden? We have them for my two which they use if they come home and we're out. If you haven't already, I fully recommend having one :)

It always amazes me that we let the general public buy what are effectively explosives. Just crazy. Every year there are tragic stories relating to humans and animals alike.

This is my first fireworks night with new the Guineas so they are staying in with me and a dose of Bach’s Resche remedy rubbed on their ears.

If you can bring them inside during fireworks that is good as some of them are sooo loud.. Once indoors radio on tends to help, luckily ours have always been fine they are used to loud noises with the hoover etc so tend not to be worried.

Firework season will be over soon thank goodness

Fireworks have just started near me so I went to check the girls were ok.
It was very much “Do we care?”

I hope everyones animals stay safe :luv: the cat has always liked fireworks for some reason, he sits by the window and watches them! The piggies spent last year hidden under their hay piles but they're all quite happily laying down waiting for their veg at the moment, luckily *touches wood* no one has set off any rockets around here and I believe the display that used to be yearly, no longer goes ahead. Even the gerbils arent bothered which surprises me, I was expecting them to be the most frightened.
Once whoever is setting off the fizzy, screamy ones a couple of doors down has finished I'm hoping for a reasonably quiet night.

I’ve brought mine indoors for the weekend. The fireworks have just started so I went to check on the boys - so far they don’t seem to mind at all....actually they were more startled by me going to check on them!

We have fireworks here all year round, they just get a bit more intense around November the 5th and New Year. My piggies don't take much notice unless one goes off right overhead as they have got used to them.

My friends dog chewed a door frame in panic one year, lost her front teeth and had a stroke because she was so afraid of the fireworks someone was letting off at a party (not on a known firework night!) when her owners were out.

Some people are very irresponsible, just because they are having fun they don't care about anyone else.

Just been watching the local news and apparently their were 150 fireworks incidents in Greater Manchester within 5 hours last night. Stupid irresponsible kids were even targeting the fire fighters with fireworks! Kids shouldn't even be able to get their hands on fkreworks! It's been relatively quiet here over the weekend but I'm dreading tonight :(

I was sitting in the Pig house last night when the fireworks were going off to see if they were scared. The rabbits didn't care at all. Some of the Pigs were a bit nervous but they weren't extremely scared :)
